Earlier this week, the Humanities Department and the Dean of Arts and Sciences sponsored the third and final open figure drawing session offered this fall. This was an open figure drawing session with no instruction. Newsprint, vine charcoal, and basic supplies were available and no experience required.

Yesterday afternoon, our Center for Diversity and Inclusiveness hosted a Coco with the PoPo - aka Fitchburg State University Police - outside the CDI Office in Hammond. Comfort dog Zara nosed out the cocoa in the most popular contest.

Students in Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Professor J.J. Sylvia's  Creative Coding class recently demonstrated their One Button Game MakeyMakey projects. Creative coding employs computer programming as a means of creative expression using algorithmic and generative art, data visualization, and storytelling techniques for applied projects. These skills are learned in the context of critical and cultural media studies and the digital humanities. 

Yesterday afternoon, the Communications Media Department hosted a celebration of Professor Bob Harris's long and impactful teaching career at Fitchburg State in the Conlon Film/Video Studio. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni stopped by to wish Bob a happy retirement, with many posing for an "old-school" portrait to commemorate the event.

This afternoon, to coincide with the last day of classes, the Fitchburg Activities Board (FAB) hosted a Relaxation Lounge: Destress Event in G-Lobby of the Hammond Building. With finals right around the corner. FAB gave students the opportunity to take their mind off the workload and destress at their relaxation lounge with massage chairs, oxygen bar and more! 

Game Design  Professor Jonathan Amakawa welcomed students, faculty, and families to the Randall Lecture Hall where all were gathered to watch  the students from the Fall 2025 Game Studio showcase their game, discuss their development process and answer audience questions. 

The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library recently hosted a New Furniture Open House where students, faculty, staff, and the public were invited to explore new seating offerings and to make the Library a place to work from when you are on campus. The Library received SUCCESS grant funds to purchase new furniture that diversifies the types of seating in the Library. Learn more here.

Students and staff stopped by our Office of Student Engagement's Recharge Station in G-Lobby to fuel their focus with energy drinks and dirty sodas with Study Break, All-Nighter Accelerator, Motivation Mixer, and Berry Brain Boost on the menu.

Student teams in English Studies Professor Dr. Katharine Covino's First-Year Experience (FYE) course each created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) which were judged, with a PSA about water refill stations coming out on top. Fitchburg Mayor Samantha Squailia visited the class to sign and give certificates to the winning team. 

Students in Communications Media's Professor Charles Roberts' Intermediate Digital Cinema Production course recently learned the ins & outs of creating a dolly sot in the Conlon Studio. Intermediate Digital Cinema Production covers professional production techniques used in modern narrative production environments. In addition to achieving competency in lighting, exposure, composition and framing with video cameras, students master the basics of audio production both on location and in studio environments and the editing of the dramatic narrative.
