On Friday, families, friends, faculty, and staff gathered in the Hammond Main Lounge for our annual Upward Bound Academic Recognition Assembly. Together, they celebrated the incredible achievements, hard work, and dedication of our Summer 2026 Upward Bound scholars. Following the ceremony, everyone headed to the Falcon Hub to share lunch and celebrate a fantastic summer season. Congratulations to all of our scholars! 

Our Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) scholars kicked off their last day of the summer program with a special morning treat—a delicious Chartwells breakfast served by UBMS Director Nate Obin and their incredible program teachers in the Holmes Dining Common. A fun way to say thank you for all the hard work, curiosity, and energy these students brought to campus this summer. 

What an incredible turnout for our UBMS scholars! Today’s Experiential Learning Student Showcase in the Hammond Main Lounge was a massive success! Scores of attendees stopped by to walk through the displays, ask thoughtful questions, and dive into our students' impressive research projects. This event was the perfect stage to highlight the incredible growth, dedication, and innovation our Upward Bound Math & Science scholars have demonstrated all summer long. 

Before stepping into the Hammond Main Lounge for today’s Upward Bound Math & Science Showcase, our panel of judges gathered in the Holmes Dining Commons where they went over scoring rubrics, presentation parameters, and got ready to evaluate the incredible research, experiments, and creative projects our UBMS scholars have been working on all summer.

Our Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) scholars are putting the final touches on their summer research, and their presentation skills, ahead of tomorrow’s Experiential Learning Student Showcase in the Hammond Main Lounge, 1-4. Come see all the incredible work from our summer scholars—featuring hands-on projects, scientific experiments, and creative presentations. Stop by, walk through, and ask our students about their research! It’s the perfect opportunity to witness firsthand the remarkable growth, curiosity, and innovation they’ve shown all summer long. 

Our Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science summer program students spent Friday giving back to the community during their annual Day of Service. After rolling up their sleeves and putting in some hard work, our students headed back to campus to celebrate with a well-earned lunch and a afternoon packed with fun activities on the Quad. 

Students in our Upward Bound Math & Science program stepped into the Antonucci Science Center lab for a hands-on genetics experiment: extracting DNA from strawberries. Immersive laboratory experiences like this give our students a head start on real-world STEM skills and college-level research. 

Susan Beddes, Associate Director of Internship Coordination and Employer Relations, is leading a week-long resume workshop for our Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Summer Program students. With local internships just around the corner, these students are putting in the work to make their resumes shine and stand out to area employers. Huge thanks to our Career Services and Advising Center for setting them up for success! 

Students in our Upward Bound program are taking "hands-on learning" to a whole new level. They’re currently putting their STEM skills to work crafting a custom birdhouse replica of our iconic Conlon Building from scrap pallet wood. From measuring angles to mastering woodworking tools, these students are building something amazing.
