Students in Exercise and Sports Science Professor Monica Maldari's Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology course compare heart rate and blood pressure at rest and during activity. Cardiovascular dynamics is studied through the anatomy, electro physiology and pathology of the cardiovascular systems. Description of the ECG variations and the underlying mechanisms forms the foundation for practical experience in clinical interpretation of the ECG.

Students in Exercise and Sports Science Professor Lindsay Parisi Exercise Physiology I Lab took resting and exercise blood pressures in the North St. Exercise & Sports Science Lab. In this course, human systemic response and adaptation to exercise and exercise training are studied in-depth. Topics included are epidemiology and physiology in health and disease, homeostasis and exercise metabolism, bioenergetics, nutrition, exercise and performance, exercise prescriptions for health, training, exercise and the environment and factors limiting performance. Laboratory experiences provide practical assessment skills as well as application of the scientific method to problems and issues in this field.

Fitchburg State University Police Program Recruit Officer Course (ROC) - Physical Training Continues

Fitchburg State University Police Program Recruit Officer Course (ROC) - Physical Training, Day 1

Today was the first day of Physical Training (PT) for the 6th   Fitchburg State University Police Program's   Recruit Officer Course (ROC). Lead PT instructor Eric Bailey introduced the class to the first phase of PT, along with PT instructors Dr. Jess Alsup and Dr. Lindsay Parisi of our Exercise Sports Science Program (EXSS) . We would like to thank State Representative Mike Kushmerek for coming out this morning to meet the 6th, where he offered some words of thanks & encouragement, as well as  participating side by side with them in the full PT session. Dean Sara Levine also stopped by the field to show support.

Speakers Physician Assistant Natalie Antaya, Strength and Conditioning Coach Brandon Mgeni, Bioassay Quality Control Scientist at Moderna Michelle Nkansah, Occupational Therapist Brianna Mirenda, and BSN Danielle Patton. All shared stories of their journeys to where they are now, and what it's like in their respective positions with current students and faculty.

Around Campus - Exercise Physiology II Lab

Students in Professor Danielle Wigmore's Exercise Physiology II course ascertain baseline statistics for their experiment to record possible physiological affects of beet root supplement after two weeks. The subject is given the supplement and instructions on dosage. The course is designed to cover physiological response to acute exercise and chronic adaptations to exercise. This part of the multi-phased lab based course examines the  cardiovascular system, respiratory system, and the impact of different environmental conditions on exercise responses and capacity. It also introduces research methods in exercise science.
