This morning, students in English Studies Professor Katharine Covino's The Banned Books Club: Exploring Book Challenges & Censorship Adult Learning in the Fitchburg Area (ALFA) course gathered in the The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library Archives where University Archivist Asher Jackson discussed Fitchburg State University alumni Robert Cormier’s canonical novel The Chocolate War. often a target of book banning. While there, students were able to view the expansive Robert E. Cormier Archives related to the novel, and discuss various aspects of its potential banning.

The Fitchburg State University Center for Professional Studies' Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) week began this morning. In the AP Biology track, High School Teachers are conducting a week long transpiration experiment. The APSI are designed to support all aspects of AP courses, including AP methodology, curriculum, class assignments and examinations as well as providing strategies for teaching AP courses. Art & Design Educators spent the week long program in a combination of lecture, projects, and discussion to improve their teaching skills.

Our Adult Learning in the Fitchburg Area (ALFA) program celebrated it's 20th Anniversary with a celebration in the Falcon Hub. Associate Dean,
School of Graduate, Online, and Continuing Education Dr. Lisa Moison and University President Dr. Richard Lapidus welcomed guests to the event. The celebration included a lunch buffet with the bluesy folk fusion of five-piece band Tattoo, awards and recognitions followed by a mini-sampling of current ALFA courses led by our community instructors. performance by Tattoo There is also a Community Gallery installation at the Fitchburg Art Museum through May 27. ALFA is a lifelong learning institute that serves adult learners in Fitchburg and the surrounding communities.

Yesterday, English Studies Professor Kisha Tracy held a reception for her Writing II class students, mentors from the university community, as well as mentors from our Adult Learning in the Fitchburg Area (ALFA) Program, as part of this semester's Heritages of Change exhibition. Students and their mentors discussed their various contribution to the project which is a practice of curatorial activism, bringing attention to the heritages of marginalized and emerging topics.

Paul led the group in some seasonal selections as well as potential choices to play at the upcoming 20th Anniversary ALFA Art Show, May 22, 2024.
