Engineering Technology Professor Sanjay Kaul along with Technical Asst. III Dan Cheney recently took advantage of a sunny fall day to bring the students in his Energy & Sustainable Practices course, along with different solar arrays, outside to measure the solar power they gathered. The course studies renewable and non-renewable forms of energy and sustainable practices including material selection, embedded energy, and material reuse. Students build and test both commercial and laboratory made devices and offers in-depth knowledge of energy supplies and sources. The course treats, in detail, topics as how rate of formation is slower than replacement, how energy sources could be best utilized and to identify the technology associated with energy resources and sustainability. Engineering Technology Professor Ana Mesquita-Emlinger worked with students in her Engineering Graphics course to the quad for observational hand-drawing focused on the buildings and landscape. In this course, Students are introduced to traditional and modern methods in engineering and technology graphic visualization, drawing, drafting, CAD software, and 3D modeling. Emphasis is placed on how visualization is used in both design and production.

Engineering Technology Professor Nirajan Mani  brought students in his surveying course out to Mara Village. This course introduces the principles and practice of surveying. Surveying and use and care of surveying instruments, such as measuring tape, engineer’s level, theodolite, and total station. It includes horizontal and vertical measurements, layout, traverse, area computations, analysis, and adjustments of systematic and random errors, stadia surveying, and mapping.  

Professor and Chair of the Engineering Technology Department Nirajan Mani introduced Mark Franciosi, RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC, REWO, Director of Technical Services at Polyglass and a 1996 graduate of Fitchburg State University's Construction Technology as part of the department's Industry Guest Speaker Series. He presented Waterproofing in Critical Building Areas: Below-Grade & Elevated Decks - Applications, Typical Technologies, and Key Challenges to students in Conlon 201A. With more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Mr. Franciosi has built expertise in project management, product development, building enclosure consulting, forensic investigations, and expert witness services. Throughout his career, Mark has worked closely with contractors, architects, consultants, and building owners to improve building enclosure performance and durability. A Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC) through IIBEC, Mark is an active participant in numerous industry organizations and a published author on building enclosure and constructionrelated topics.

The Fitchburg State University School of Business and Technology held an Ice Cream Social yesterday afternoon on the quad. The event offered an opportunity for students to take a break, grab a scoop, and connect with friends, faculty and staff, meet new people and build connections, good vibes and great community.  

Lat last week, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Engineering Technology, and Mathematics faculty involved in the National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM Project gathered in Presidents Hall for the NSF S-STEM Program Year 2 Meet & Greet with the newest cohort. The project is committed to improving STEM majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Engineering Technology, and Mathematics student experience. 

This afternoon, Engineering TechnologyProfessor Ana Mesquita-Emlingerwelcomed  Dr. Sabino Luna, M.D., from Argentina, for a a special Lunch & Learn in the Falcon Hub. Dr. Luna, a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and Chair of the Mental Health Program at the University of La Rioja, Argentina, spoke about mental health, medicine, and spirituality. The session opened with  Brazilian musician Luiz Antonio, following, President Hodge gave welcoming remarks. 

In partnership with the Spanish American Center and Best Buy, Dean of Business and Technology Dr.Mahmoud Al-Odeh and Fitchburg State University are proud to host Geek Squad Academy's two-day camp that allows students to become "Junior Agents". Working alongside professional Geek Squad Agents, kids will develop tech skills, spark their creativity, build self-confidence, and explore future tech careers. Sessions include, game design, robotics, stop-motion film production, and digital music creation. After their welcome, Admissions Assistant Director Tyler Scipione shared all the opportunities here at Fitchburg State University where they can enlist their new skill set. We love seeing our campus transform into a hub for the next generation of innovators. Welcome to the academy, Junior Agents!
