Late last week, both faculty and students got a chance to learn from, and ask questions of Justin Aubuchon, LEED AP CM-Lean, Vice President of Pre-Construction and Estimating at Bond Building Construction, Inc. who presented "Integrating Preconstruction Phases: Collaboration Between Estimators, Designers, and Contractors" as part of the  Engineering Technology Department's  guest speaker series in Conlon Hall.

Yesterday afternoon, Engineering Technology  Professor Ana Mesquita-Emlinger led students in her Engineering Graphics course to the quad for observational hand-drawing focused on the buildings and landscape. In this course, Students are introduced to traditional and modern methods in engineering and technology graphic visualization, drawing, drafting, CAD software, and 3D modeling. Emphasis is placed on how visualization is used in both design and production.

Environmental, Geographic and Public Health Sciences Professor Jiang Yu helps students map the magnetic field in her General Physics II course. This second-semester general college physics course consists of studies and applications of wave motions, sound, electricity, magnetism, light and optics. Typical topics include Coulomb's law, electric force and field, potential and capacitance, electric circuits, magnetic force and field, magnetic forces on moving charges, electric induction, laws of reflection and refraction, mirrors and lenses, optical instruments, interference and diffraction of light.

Engineering Technology Professor Sanjay Kaul recently took advantage of a sunny spring day to bring the students in his Energy & Sustainable Practices course, along with different solar arrays, outside to measure the solar power they gathered. The course studies renewable and non-renewable forms of energy and sustainable practices including material selection, embedded energy, and material reuse. 

Yesterday, our Career Services and Advising Center hosted the Business and Technology Career Fair event, open to anyone interested in careers in business, engineering technology, construction management, and IT/technology fields. First-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors were strongly encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to connect with employers looking to hire Fitchburg State students. 

 Engineering Technology Professor Nirajan Mani  took advantage of yesterday afternoon's spring-like weather and brought students in his surveying course outside. 

This afternoon, the Engineering Technology Department held their annual BBQ on the Highland Ave. Plaza. Also, prizes and certificates were awarded to our students for the 5th Annual Engineering Technology Student Project Competition.

Students in Engineering Technology Professor Soumitra Basu test the strength of wood in his Material Test & Quality Control class. Students are introduced to methods for testing the mechanical and thermal properties of commonly used materials in industry, and the statistical background for quality control.

This Afternoon, students in the Engineering Technology Department presented their research projects as part of the Engineering Technology Student Project Competition, Faculty were on hand to ask questions and judge the top research projects. 

Students in Engineering Technology Professor Wayne Whitfield's Engineering Design & Fabrication I course run through various pieces of equipment so they are prepared to instruct others on how to use each one. This course studies mass production theory, systems and procedures in metalworking which includes engineering design and leads to prototype development.
