Monty Tech Students Tour Engineering Department

Yesterday, our Engineering Technology Department hosted a group of students and two teachers from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School's (Monty Tech) Engineering Program, who spent the day exploring opportunities in Engineering Technology at Fitchburg State University. After welcoming remarks from Department Chair Nirajan Mani, faculty and students, the high school students worked with current students on an eco-centric project in Professor Ana Mesquita-Emlinger's  Building Design I course. More presentation s and tours of our facilities were followed by lunch in our dining hall and campus tours by our Admissions Tour Guides.

On Friday, Dean of the School of Business and Technology Dr.  Mahmoud Al-Odeh and Engineering Technology Department faculty welcomed local business partners to the  Fitchburg State University Engineering Technology Department's Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting. The meeting serves as an opportunity to get local industry leaders and educators together to discuss the university's role in employers human resources needs.

Career Services and Advising Center - Engineering Employer Roundtable

Earlier today, the Career Services and Advising Center and the Engineering Technology Department held a Lunch & Learn Engineering Technology Employer Roundtable event. Representatives from Columbia, Jabil, Nypromold, and [re}archetect  were on hand to network with students in Conlon Hall. Networking events serve as an excellent opportunity for our students to connect with potential employers, learn about different career paths, and gain valuable insights into the current job market.

Around Campus - Engineering Graphics on the Quad

Yesterday afternoon, Engineering Technology  Professor Ana Mesquita-Emlinger led students in her Engineering Graphics course to the quad for observational hand-drawing focused on the buildings and landscape. In this course, Students are introduced to traditional and modern methods in engineering and technology graphic visualization, drawing, drafting, CAD software, and 3D modeling. Emphasis is placed on how visualization is used in both design and production.

Environmental, Geographic and Public Health Sciences Professor Jiang Yu helps students map the magnetic field in her General Physics II course. This second-semester general college physics course consists of studies and applications of wave motions, sound, electricity, magnetism, light and optics. Typical topics include Coulomb's law, electric force and field, potential and capacitance, electric circuits, magnetic force and field, magnetic forces on moving charges, electric induction, laws of reflection and refraction, mirrors and lenses, optical instruments, interference and diffraction of light.

Around Campus - Energy & Sustainable Practices

Engineering Technology Professor Sanjay Kaul recently took advantage of a sunny spring day to bring the students in his Energy & Sustainable Practices course, along with different solar arrays, outside to measure the solar power they gathered. The course studies renewable and non-renewable forms of energy and sustainable practices including material selection, embedded energy, and material reuse.

First-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors were strongly encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to connect with employers looking to hire Fitchburg State students.
