Have you admired the reflection of Thompson Hall from the Hammond Hall Plaza and noticed some greenery in the third floor windows? The plants are the result of a Student Affairs retreat program that was held in May. All offices under the Student Affairs umbrella decorated a pot for another office and then planted a random mix of wildflowers. Counseling Services are the caretakers because of the amazing window space.

Award-winning filmmaker, Communications Media/Film/Video Concentration student, Tonia Magras is filming "Do You Remember Me?" at various locations here on the Fitchburg State University campus.

Our student athletes are on campus, and Head Football Coach Izzy Abraham is wasting no time at the onset of his inaugural season here at Fitchburg State University. He, along with the rest of the Coaching Staff held a morning meeting in the Randall Lecture Hall. 

Yesterday evening, President Donna Hodge and campus leaders from student services across campus welcomed students and families to our third and final Falcon Express One-Stop event in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge. The goal of this event is to provide students with all the resources they need to answer any final questions they may have, and allow students to enroll in their academic coursework with no delays! 

 Our Summer Institute for Journalism Education wrapped up today with presentations by English Studies Professor Collin Syfert Web Editor Mike Elfland (Worcester Telegram & Gazette), Editor John Osborn (The Harvard Press), and Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody.

Yesterday, the Fitchburg State University Police Department participated in Active Shooter Training which included a classroom review; practical exercises for various size contact teams; and some force or force scenarios.

As part of our Summer Institute for Journalism Education, Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody Introduced keynote speaker Author and journalism professor Dan Kennedy at the Fitchburg Historical Society. Mr. Kennedy discussed the future of local news during his keynote address.

Our Summer Institute for Journalism Education, a collaboration between our Communications Media and English Studies departments, is an inaugural program and is focused on the theme of "Teaching Tomorrow’s Citizens Today: News Literacy as a Tool for Critical Education." 

This institute is a wonderful opportunity to develop key concepts in your research, apply new lessons to the classroom, and address educators across the Commonwealth and beyond about issues facing journalism, news literacy, and new media technologies. 

This final orientation session gave our newest Falcons, unable to attend previous dates, the opportunity to get schedule information, learn about on-campus opportunities, a chance to connect with faculty, staff and each other, and more. President Donna Hodge, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless welcomed students and their guests this morning in the Hammond Main Lounge. Afterward, our Orientation Leaders lead the students to the quad for some ice breaker activities.

We welcomed incoming Falcons, their families, and friends today for our First Look Friday event. First Look Friday gave new residential students a chance to see their residence halls, the size and layout of their rooms, visit common areas, meet future classmates, and more, in advance of move-in next month.
