Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - Graduation

The 21 members of the5th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) at Fitchburg State were sworn in as police officers on Friday before an audience of family, friends, elected leaders and public safety professionals. Most of the graduates of our groundbreaking program have already been hired by police departments across the state. As the executive director of the Municipal Police Training Committee told the assembled graduates, they are poised to be future leaders in their profession. Good luck!

Rock the Block gives students a chance to connect with over 150 Clubs, Organizations, Departments and Non-Profits. There are a plethora of activities, including a rock wall, dinner, dunk tank, big chair photos, ice cream truck, club demonstrations, free stuff and so much more!

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - Graduation Rehearsal

Lisa Lane McCarty, Director of the Fitchburg State University Police Program, program staff, and the 5th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) held a walk-through for tomorrow morning's Police Program Graduation: 5th ROC. Expected at the ceremony are President Lapidus, local dignitaries, members of police departments from across Massachusetts, as well as proud family members.

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - Detective Mario Oliveira Presentation

 This morning, Somerville Police Department Detective Mario Oliveira (Ret.) shared his poignant story with the 5th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC). On November 2, 2010, while assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives Boston Field office as a Task Force Agent, Detective, Detective Oliveira was shot six times at point blank range while serving a Federal arrest warrant. 

Detective Oliveira told of his time in the Mass General Hospital Emergency Trauma Bay, where he had an amazing experience with the afterlife. He shared that he was visited by his late Grandmother in the form of a nurse. Detective Oliveira’s grandmother provided him with Hope & Faith that he would pull through despite dying three times that evening.

Faculty Profile: Jane Fiske, Music

What is your educational background?

  • My Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees are from the New England Conservatory of Music in piano performance.  After teaching at the Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts and the Saint Mark’s School, I decided to return to school myself and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in music education from Boston University.

How long have you been teaching at Fitchburg State University?

  • I have been teaching at Fitchburg State University since 1986; first as an adjunct professor and then as a full time professor in 1989.  I have taught courses in music history and music theory as well as interdisciplinary courses and applied instruction in piano and voice.
