Nursing Simulation Laboratory; Home Healthcare Scenario

Two Nursing students were immersed in a home healthcare simulation as Visiting Nurses for patient Bob, his wife Claire (played by Nursing faculty member) and "dog" Chloe, all in Bob's "apartment." Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to real-life simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. All students and faculty debrief after the scenario.

First All Schools Meeting of the Semester

Dr. Jennifer Hanselman, Ph.D., Dean of Business and Technology & Dean of Health and Natural Sciences held the first All Schools meeting of the Fall semester yesterday afternoon in the Hammond Main Hall. Early on the agenda was the introduction of the newest Student Ambassadors for the schools, and a celebratory "champagne" toast to acknowledge all of the grant work, and grants awarded since last year.

Fitchburg State Welcomes NEACT 2023 Annual Summer Conference

Yesterday, Fitchburg State University welcomed the New England Association of Chemistry Teachers (NEACT) for their 2023 (83rd Annual) Summer Conference. This year's theme is "Engaging Chemistry:  Hands on, minds on!"  After keynote address by  Dr. André K. Isaacs, associate professor of chemistry at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, attendees participated in a myriad of presentations.

Center for Professional Studies' Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) - AP Biology, Transpiration

The Fitchburg State University Center for Professional StudiesAdvanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) first week is in full swing. In the AP Biology track, High School Teachers are conducting a week long transpiration experiment. The APSI are designed to support all aspects of AP courses, including AP methodology, curriculum, class assignments and examinations as well as providing strategies for teaching AP courses.

Life Science Networking Event

Yesterday afternoon, the Fitchburg State University Career Services and Advising Center, along with MassBioEd, and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center sponsored a Life Sciences Networking Event in the Antonucci Science Complex. The event offered an opportunity for students interested in a career in the life sciences industry to meet professionals from Biosynth, Dewpoint Therapeutics, Inc., UMass Chan Medical School, Xilio Therapeutics, and more! Students were able to network and find out about career opportunities and pathways to success, gain insights into life sciences careers, soft skills, and internships.

Fitchburg State University Chapter of Psi Chi Induction

Yesterday afternoon, Psychological Science students were inducted into the Fitchburg State University Chapter of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology in the Presidents Conference Room. Students must have least three semesters (45 credits) of college coursework, three semesters (45 credits) of college coursework, and least three courses (9 credits) in psychology at Fitchburg State University, including PSY 2100 Research Design and Analysis II. State Senator Cronin Visits Campus

Provost Marshal, Dean Hanselman, and faculty  were on hand to discuss the Biology and Chemistry programs. Students in the disciplines gave Senator Cronin a tour of our facilities and talked about their own research, and what a Fitchburg State University has meant to them.

Spring Fever - Life Science on the Quad

Spring fever has taken hold of the campus, Biology and Chemistry Professor Erin Rehrig took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to have her Life Science for Educators class work on their Timeline of Life on Earth on the quad. This course covers a broad array of life science topics including cellular, organismal, and human biology. It is designed to provide a foundation in the life sciences for education majors (K-8).

Around Campus - Spring Has Sprung - Math Outside

When the weather warms in North Central Massachusetts, you don't let it go to waste, which is likely why Mathematics Professor Nermin Bayazit held her Informal Math Modeling class outside on the Hammond Hall Patio this afternoon. The course covers relations, patterns and functions using multiple representations and focusing on the manner in which these concepts connect to mathematical ideas specified in the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks.
