Around Campus - Organic Chemistry II Lab

Posted by Andy Cunningham on January 30, 2025 at 3:53 PM

Students in Biology and Chemistry Professor Mathangi Krishnamurthy's Organic Chemistry II Lab work on an assignment in the Antonucci Science Complex. In this course, chemistry of aromatic compounds, unsaturated hydrocarbons and enols and enolates are covered in detail. Reactions such as elimination, electrophilic addition, nucleophilic addition and condensation are discussed in detail with special emphasis on reaction mechanisms and stereochemical outcomes. The theories behind analytical methods such as IR, NMR spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry are discussed along with their application in structural elucidation of organic compounds.
