Our Summer Orientation 2023 continued with some ice breaker activities after this morning's welcome, information sessions, Orientation Leader skits, current student & alumni Q&A, and Cotton-Eyed Joe.

We are very excited to welcome our Incoming first year students for the first session of our Summer Orientation 2023 this morning. Our newest Falcons, the Class of 2027, began the day with welcome remarks from Associate Dean for Student Development Hank Parkinson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless in Weston Auditorium. After introduction of our Orientation Leaders, groups ventured out to the quad for some ice breaker activities, then to a day full of information sessions and activities.

Twenty students from the One Goal program at Lawrence High School visited the Fitchburg State University campus earlier this week. They took part in information sessions and a tour of our beautiful campus and state-of-the-art facilities. 

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders, who are on campus preparing for orientation sessions for our newest Falcons, The Class of 2027, gathered in front of Hammond Hall for a tour of Fitchburg, MA this afternoon  with Associate Director of Student Development, Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen acting as Tour Guide. The trip included many points of interest including the Fitchburg Abolitionist Park, Fitchburg Art Museum, Cogshall Park, and Rollstone Hill Quarries. Other points of interest like shopping, restaurants, and local landmarks were pointed out during the drive. The tour was capped of with ice cream at Country Pizza.

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders are on campus preparing for orientation sessions for our newest Falcons, The Class of 2027. After moving in, and reconnecting over lunch, the Orientation Leaders enjoyed a quick Icebreaker before starting a busy week of training. 

Recently, students in attending Fitchburg State University were treated to a tour entitled "Communications in Action." Prospective students got to see the facilities, for Gaming, Photography, Theater, Graphic Design, Film, and more!

This morning, Fitchburg State University hosted educators and administrators from across Massachusetts for a daylong series of discussions and workshops on Early College, a program that lets high school students experience and complete college-level coursework.

Fitchburg State President Richard S. Lapidus opened the event by citing the growth of Early College on the university’s campus, with the number of participating students growing by more than 40% in the last year. The university has formal agreements with Mount Wachusett Community College and local high schools including Athol, Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, Narragansett Regional, and Sizer School that create credit-bearing opportunities for students. 

Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll joined other state and local education leaders and students at Fitchburg High School Thursday to talk about the impact of Early College programs.

For those who have ever wondered, "Should I get a master's degree?" They got the opportunity to find out at the School of Graduate, Online and Continuing Education Graduate Fair this afternoon in Hammond Hall, Main Lounge. Those interested were able to ask questions about graduate programs and meet with representatives from Fitchburg State University as well as ten other local universities.
