Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall held a retreat so the members of her council can discuss the upcoming fall semester in detail.

The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library Outreach Librarian for Student Success Lori Steckervetz presented Creating Research Questions as part of yesterday's Commonwealth Honors - Honors Research Seminar Workshop as a way to spark conversation about transitioning students to their research question.

Families and students enjoyed a Resource Fair during today's lunch. Afterward, students met with their respective Academic Advisors during our Summer Orientation 2025.

Yesterday, the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library hosted the ROTEL (Remixing Open Textbooks through an Equity Lens) wrap-up party in the Falcon Hub. Many textbooks have been authored by Fitchburg State University faculty members including  Michael Hove (Psychological Science), Peter Staab (Mathematics), J.J. Sylvia IV (Communications Media) and Kisha Tracy (English Studies).

Economics, History and Political Science Professor Paul Weizer introduced student Carolina Dykes and Earth and Geographic Sciences Professor Jane Huang introduced Ethan Chaco and Madison Ambrogi at last week's  Board of Trustees meeting in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge. Dykes discussed her casework at Moot Court, while Chaco and Ambrogi discussed their Helping Bridge the Digital Divide project. The talks gave the Board of Trustees a chance to see the scholarly work of our students.

Yesterday the university held our annual Undergraduate Conference for Research and Creative Practice in Hammond Hall. The conference is a public forum to enhance student's  skills, to share their work, to see the work of others in their field, and to give and receive valuable feedback. The conference was free to attend and open to the public. We're proud of the work our undergraduate community does -  from the opening performance of Creative Arts Therapies major  Autumn Hughes, attendees had the opportunity to observe lightning talks, oral & poster presentations, panel discussions, ARTeries exhibit, and more! This morning, faculty got the chance to reconnect before the semester. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and other Academic Affairs staff, welcomed all and provided updates, celebrated achievements, and listened to faculty concerns. Keynote speaker Dr. Meira Levinson, Juliana W. and William Foss Thompson Professor of Education and Society, Harvard Graduate School of Education discussed the topic of Educational Ethics.

Amidst a day full of activities and information sessions, students - transfers and freshmen -  met with the Deans in their selected majors to make sure their schedules are ready before classes begin on January 16th.
