Our nursing students were immersed in a respiratory distress scenario for a pediatric patient. The understandably upset mom was played by Nursing Program Professor Deborah Benes. Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to real-life simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. All students and faculty debrief after the scenario.

Nashoba Valley Technical High School Design & Visual Communications Instructor Derik Rochon brought a group of students from the high school for a tour of facilities in our Communication Media Program. Current Communications Media/Graphic Design student, and Nashoba Valley Technical High School alumnus, Savannah Caldbeck spoke with students, shared her unique experience, showed some of her work, and answered students' questions. Graphic Design Professor Donald Tarallo described the program, showed more projects, and answered student's questions.

Fitchburg State University Police Program Police Academy Director Alexandra Wysocki welcomed representatives from over a dozen law enforcement agencies to the Hammond Main Lounge yesterday afternoon for the Career Services and Advising Center's Law Enforcement Reverse Career Fair. Students in Theater Professor Kelly Morgan's Stage Movement: Combat course work in small groups to rehearse the combat scenes they've conceived as part of the coursework. The class teaches students how to utilize the sword as an extension of the character and a a vehicle by which the actor propels the story.

Today, the Fitchburg High School Extended Program at Fitchburg State University celebrated Kaylee and Dayana who graduated from the program. The Fitchburg High School Extended Program at Fitchburg State University supports eligible public high school students with intellectual disabilities, ages 18-22, to increase their academic and career success. Lourdes Ramirez, coordinator of field placements, partnerships and recruitment for Fitchburg State’s School of Education represented the university and presented diplomas along with Fitchburg High School Extended Program and Fitchburg High School staff.

Students in Economics, History and Political Science Professor Teresa Fava Thomas' Italian American History course learn about the immigration identity of Italian immigrants in America during World War II. The course examines the history of Italians in America and seeks to explain the causes and consequences of immigration, both at the national level and a personal level. Topics will include an examination of the unification of Italy and the conditions which impelled mass migration, regional differences and various responses to economic development in the late 19th and 20th centuries, the experience of migration and the adjustment to life in America.
