Yesterday, our Career Services and Advising Center hosted the Business and Technology Career Fair event, open to anyone interested in careers in business, engineering technology, construction management, and IT/technology fields. First-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors were strongly encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to connect with employers looking to hire Fitchburg State students. 

Fitchburg State University’s instrumental and choral ensembles performed a joint concert last evening in Weston Auditorium. Music Professor Justin Casinghino welcomed attendees to this concert program which serves as  a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the university’s choirs, bands and orchestra. Yesterday afternoon, our Disability Services presented How Do You Roar? A Reflection on Human Dignity, Disability, and to Making a Better World with alumnae Pat Deegan. Deegan shared her story of being diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager and being told she would be ill for the rest of her life. Today Pat runs her own company and lectures to audiences around the world about recovery after a diagnosis of psychosis. She shared her journey of recovery and invited the audience to reflect upon their unique ROAR.

This afternoon, our Caribbean Student Association hosted a PIE a CASA E-Board Member event today in G-Lobby of Hammond Hall. Proceeds are going towards their Grand Royal Soiree taking place April, 4.

Our Chamber Choir, under the direction of Meredith Neumann, practice for this evening's Spring Music Mega Mix in Weston Auditorium. The concert program is a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the university’s choirs, bands and orchestra. Performers will include Fitchburg State students as well as faculty members. Last week, President Donna Hodge and Fitchburg State University Police Chief Michael Cloutier wrapped up a days-long emergency management training on campus attended by university administrators and staff as well as representatives from the city’s police and fire departments by handing out giftbags as a token of their appreciation. 

While Music Program Professor Dr. Jonathan Harvey is on sabbatical, English Studies Professor DeMisty D. Bellinger-Delfeld welcomed the audience in the Kent Recital Hall for Women in the Arts, a continuation of our Women's History Month celebration. The event showcased  women-identified artists and performers, featuring visual artists, musicians, poets, and more. Learn more about our Humanities Programs here.

Future Falcons joined us at an admitted student open house to see what their life at Fitchburg State could be. The day's program included campus tours, program-specific information sessions and a reception in the Athletics and Recreation Center. After President Donna Hodge welcomed everyone to the reception, Future Falcons, their families and guests, were able to mingle with a multitude of departments and student groups. The university offers a number of additional visit opportunities, from general tours to specific information sessions geared toward accepted students who are still making their academic decisions. Best-selling author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds, a 1983 alumnus of Fitchburg State University, returned to the campus earlier this month for an artist residency for a series of events with students, faculty and community members. On this day, Mr. Reynolds visited students at the McKay Arts Academy. His instant rapport with students was evident as he shared his story, taught students how to draw, enlisted a student to act out his book The Dot - playing the role of Vashti, and more. 

Faculty, librarians and administrators gathered Friday to celebrate the publication of their new volumes that may be downloaded and reproduced for free, as part of an ongoing project designed to create open educational resources for students and the general public.
