Earlier this week, the Office of Student Development (OSD) staff invited everyone to "Stop by &  Spill the Tea" in G-Lobby of Hammond Hall. Tea. both hot & cold, hot cider, and an array of refreshments were offered with the interest of student feedback; What can OSD change?  What's on your mind? What's your question or concern? All feedback will be answered on the OSD Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Fitchburg State University Police Program 10th ROC Class Orientation

Fitchburg State University Police Program Academy Director Lisa Lane held orientation for the first year students enrolled in the Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (10th ROC) yesterday in the Falcon Hub. Director Lane introduced Assistant Professor Michael S. McCutcheon, Academy Instructor Lieutenant Steven Fugere of the Sterling Police, and gave an overview of the program. Members of the Seventh ROC were on hand to help with the orientation.

Around Campus - Alpaca Yoga

If you drove down Highland Ave. this morning, your eyes weren't deceiving you, there were indeed  alpaca on the quad courtesy of Commuter Affairs. Students got the opportunity to stretch and center themselves, through yoga, in the company of four alpaca from In the Meadow Farm, Lunenburg, MA. Students clearly enjoyed their session with the friendly camelids.

Around Campus - Therapy Dogs in the Falcon Hub

Yesterday afternoon, the always popular therapy dogs paid a visit to campus.  Students got a little break from classes, tests and projects by spending a little time with Zelda, Meme, Nellie, Moka, and Daisy in the Falcon Hub. These therapy dogs were a welcome respite from the stress that comes with the semester's workload. Keep your eyes on University Events for future visits.

Around Campus - Multi-Camera Television Production

With the help of our good friends at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) including Executive Director Nathan Glenny, and Production Assistant Jarrod Roberts, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course got to see what it's like to set up a remote multi-camera production. This method of production involves switching between cameras, typically in live situations such as a newscast, talk show or sporting event. The course will cover control room operations including teleprompters, broadcast switchers, instant replay and slow motion capabilities, digital audio boards and lighting control panels. Additionally, studio functions such as floor direction, camera operation, studio lighting, studio sound techniques and studio staging and the basics of directing a multi-­‐camera production are explored.

Nursing Simulation Laboratory; Home Healthcare Scenario

Two Nursing students were immersed in a home healthcare simulation as Visiting Nurses for patient Bob, his wife Claire (played by Nursing faculty member) and "dog" Chloe, all in Bob's "apartment." Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to real-life simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. All students and faculty debrief after the scenario.

Day of Caring - How to Build Community and Why it Matters

Last week, as part of the United Way Day of Caring Danette Day and her students and volunteered  to paint the flower boxes that run alongside North Street. These students are enrolled in her First Year Experience (FYE) class called How to Build Community and Why it Matters. The flower boxes are owned and managed by members of Rotary East Fitchburg. As one of their fundraising efforts every year rotary club members plant flowers, water and weed them throughout the summer. Local businesses support the fundraiser by donating money to advertise their businesses on the boxes. Funds raised are used to support students through scholarships, development of local playgrounds, summer camps opportunities etc.

Rock the Block XXV

This afternoon, Student Development held Rock the Block XXV on Highland Ave & on the Main Quad. Rock the Block gives students a chance to connect with over 150 Clubs, Organizations, Departments and Non-Profits. There are a plethora of activities, including a water slide, dinner, dunk tank, ice cream truck, club demonstrations, free stuff and so much more!
