Just ahead of tomorrow's Earth Day, a group of faculty, students, and staff gathered at the McKay Campus School parking lot and prepared to pick up trash on Rindge Rd.

This morning, Fitchburg State University President Richard Lapidus welcomed those gathered in-person, and virtually, to the first ever School of Graduate, Online and Continuing Education's Graduate Education Celebration. After remarks by Suzanne Ortega, President of the Council of Graduate Schools, who joined remotely, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Catherine R. Canney presented the inaugural 2022 Graduate Adjunct Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching to Professor Henry Culver. Then a panel of students, Kondwani Moya, and Kamelia Lechani along with Professors Kyle Moody, and Daneen Deptula talked about the graduate program experience.

Academic Coaching and Tutoring Center (ACT) visited the Gear Up Center at Fitchburg High School. Director of the ACT Center Kat McLellan, PhD, and Asst. Director of ACT were joined by Student Tutors Lia Reyes Jimenez, Olivia Willis, and Stephanie Amponmaah Boamah where they discuss future plans, college preparation, and the college experience with soon-to-be-graduates of Fitchburg High School. The students of Feminist Conversation and Student Government Association, along with some of the finest female professors at Fitchburg State gathered in the Hamond Main Lounge yesterday afternoon for a panel discussion, They shared their own personal journeys and decisions into politics and leadership roles. This panel also celebrated the birthday of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a lawyer, associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, and a mother who spent a lifetime flourishing in the face of adversity. Pi Day part two, after hosting a 3.14 mile run this morning, the Mathematics Department also hosted Pi(e) Eating in the quad. Student, faculty and staff stopped by for a slice, and or a Pi shaped cookie.

It has been about 20 years since Pi Day, March 14th, has fallen on a class day here at Fitchburg State! In celebration, the Mathematics Department is hosted a 3.14 mile run. At 9:30 Dr. Peter Staab, and others, braved the chilly temperatures for the 3.14 mile run. After some directions from Gerry Higdon, they were off.
Later today, at 1:59pm, there will be Pi(e) Eating and other activities on the quad side of Edgerly Hall. Yes, the time is intentional… Think about it.
