Last week, Fitchburg State University students Zoe Chrisostomides and Michael Burns covered the launch of the university's She Soars initiative for Fitchburg Access Television's (FATV) North Central News. The She Soars initiative, which will support women’s athletics, brought together student-athletes, coaches, and Olympic medalist Gigi Marvin to celebrate growth and opportunity.
At the luncheon, Olympic gold medalist Gigi Marvin spoke at a small, academically driven Q&A with students, and at the end of the day, she took the ice and did drills and ran plays with members of the Fitchburg State Women’s Ice Hockey Club - a once in a lifetime opportunity for those students!

Master of Ceremonies Jeremy Roche '94, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations for Fitchburg Public Schools, welcomed attendees to Weston Auditorium for the inauguration of Mayor Samantha Squailia, School Committee and City Council.
The ceremony opened with the Fitchburg Police & Fire Department Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Fitchburg Youth Football & Cheer. Officer Jacob Boivin of the Fitchburg Police Department then performed the National Anthem. Following an opening prayer by Furqan Mehmud, President of the Fitchburg Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Fitchburg State University President Donna Hodge delivered her opening remarks.
State Representative Michael Kushmerek'08, '13 spoke on behalf of the State Legislature after City Clerk Joanna Bilotta administered the Oath of Office to the City Council, School Committee, and Mayor. The event featured cultural presentations by Guatu’niki, Fitchburg High School, and Las Faldas Rojas Traditional Dance, all preceding Mayor Squailia’s inaugural address.

With the help of our good friends at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) including Executive Director Nathan Glenny, and Operations Manager Travis Falk, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course got to see what it's like to set up a remote multi-camera production at Elliot Field. From set-up to break-down, teams of students got to operate the cameras, act as subjects, and see how to put the final production together in real time in the FATV remote production truck.

Fitchburg State University Communications Media major Joshua Cronin, who is producing North Central News on Fitchburg Access Television's (FATV), spent this afternoon with Fitchburg Public Library Director Deb Hinkle and Co-Chair of the OWL Campaign Rob Favini for a segment on the progress of the library renovation. Josh and fellow senior Communications Media Zoe Chrisostomides recently won a National Hometown Media Award for Community Events, presented by the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media for the 2024 Halloween edition of North Central News, read more about the award here.

Former Criminal Justice Professor and Fitchburg Councilor-at-Large Elizabeth Walsh & Alyne Butland talked with Board President Jim McGrath and Paula Giaquinto of the Friends of Fitchburg Park at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV), a frequent collaborator and partner of the university, for Inside Fitchburg.
