Gallery Marquee is committed to making art accessible to diverse artists and audiences. This exhibition, entitled CrossCurrents, celebrates the strength and variety of artwork recently created by students at Fitchburg State University and three of our regional high schools. The show features about 60 artworks encompassing a range of artistic media, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed-media art. The public is invited to view the exhibition, free of charge, throughout the summer during our regular gallery hours. Gallery Summer Hours: Thursdays from 12 - 7 p.m. & Saturdays from 12 - 4 p.m.

Students, their families, faculty and staff gathered in Hammond Gallery. yesterday afternoon for the opening reception of ARTeries. ARTeries is Fitchburg State University Fine Art Department’s annual juried exhibition that showcases the strongest original student work in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed-media art. Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics II class put some final touches on their busts during ceramics class in Conlon Fine Arts. This course is an intermediate-level investigation into the historical and contemporary sculptural practices using clay as the medium. Students will create a variety of sculptures, such as a portrait bust, an animal sculpture, an abstracted organic piece, and an architectural structure. Last week, students in Professor Sally Moore's The Art of Puppetry class put the finishing touches on their puppets, including attaching the "marionette controller".. The course explores shape, form and movement as it relates to character, mood and atmosphere. The history of the art of puppetry from around the world is discussed through images, videos and readings. Students learn how to construct masks, shadow puppets, hand and rod puppets, and marionettes, and will work in groups to put on performances of folk tales from various parts of the world.
