Today the university kicked off its Young Falcons Academy week, where students from Fitchburg and Leominster public middle schools partake in a week full of activities on campus. After a tour this morning, these students visited our Recreation Center, learned about clubs and organizations from current Fitchburg State students, social media, visual arts, and more. Artist Candice Ivy and Fine Arts Professor Andrea Olmstead set up Candace’s exhibit “A Wide Golden Blue” in Fitchburg State University’s Hammond Hall Art Gallery. “A Wide Golden Blue” will be on display in the Hammond Hall Art Gallery from Tuesday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, March 1, 2024. Last week, students in Professor Sally Moore's The Art of Puppetry class put the finishing touches on their puppets, including attaching the "marionette controller".. The course explores shape, form and movement as it relates to character, mood and atmosphere. The history of the art of puppetry from around the world is discussed through images, videos and readings. Students learn how to construct masks, shadow puppets, hand and rod puppets, and marionettes, and will work in groups to put on performances of folk tales from various parts of the world. Graphic Design Professor Donald Tarallo demonstrates how to mount and cut out typeface examples on foam core to his Font Design Students before they prepared their own works which will be on exhibit. The student's work can be viewed here at the Fitchburg State University Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library December 13, 2023 - May 5, 2024, and the Worcester Public Library January 3 - 31, 2024. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders).
