Keynote speakers Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Undersecretary Andrew Peck and Hampden County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Nick Cocchi provided words of wisdom, gratitude, and congratulations to the newest members of the MA Department of Correction family.

Students in the he Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) learned Interviews and Interrogations techniques from Behavioral Sciences Assistant Professor Michael S. McCutcheon. Professor McCutcheon enlisted the aid of "police officer cum actors" to play the role of victim, while other officers observed and debriefed the students on their given scenario. Today, family members and other honored guests came to see the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) in action, and to learn more about the groundbreaking program that university and state leaders hope marks a new direction for the police profession. Grant retired recently from the MA State Police after 35 years of service, with many years working in the Disabled Persons Protection Unit.

Today, the 7th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC), received ALEC (Autism and Law Enforcement Education Coalition) from Officer G. Candow. ALEC is a training program taught by police officers and fire fighters who have children who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These first responders share their personal experiences about ASD to help educate other first responders on how to better serve all citizens. Officer Candow has traveled all over the country teaching officers about ASD.
