Summer Orientation 2023 - Session 4, Welcome to Fitchburg State University

We are very excited to welcome our Incoming students for the fourth and final session of our Summer Orientation 2023 this morning. After ID photos and some general "housekeeping",  our newest Falcons, the Class of 2027  received boisterous welcome remarks from Associate Dean for Student Development Hank Parkinson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless in the Hammond Main Lounge. After introduction of our Orientation Leaders, groups ventured out to the quad for some ice breaker activities, then to a day full of information sessions and activities.

Fitchburg State Welcomes NEACT 2023 Annual Summer Conference

Yesterday, Fitchburg State University welcomed the New England Association of Chemistry Teachers (NEACT) for their 2023 (83rd Annual) Summer Conference. This year's theme is "Engaging Chemistry:  Hands on, minds on!"  After keynote address by  Dr. André K. Isaacs, associate professor of chemistry at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, attendees participated in a myriad of presentations.

Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Summer Program - Digital Media Innovation

Sylvia of our Communications Media's Digital Media Innovation program discussed burgeoning topics in the realm of communications with the Fitchburg State University Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students. Among the many subjects, AI and its implications were discussed.

Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Summer Program - Community Service

Today, Fitchburg State University's Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students took part in community service as part of their Day of Service. This group was located at Fitchburg's iconic Monument Park, as well as the nearby Fitchburg Senior Center. Other groups performed their service at Fitchburg Rail Trail, Leominster Senior Center, and the Leominster Rail Trail. It won't be all work, the service will be followed by a a lunch and  fun activities afterward.

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC 6 - Family Orientation

Today, family members and other honored guests came to see the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's  Recruit Officer Course (ROC) in action, and to learn more about the groundbreaking program that university and state leaders hope marks a new direction for the police profession.

Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Summer Program - New England Flying Squirrel Network

Today, Fitchburg State University's Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students learned about the Earth Citizens Science Nest Box Project  from representatives from New England Flying Squirrel Network. Afterward, with the assistance of Director Nate Obin and Education Coordinator Maya McCabe, built flying squirrel boxes to be used in a region-wide study.

Summer Orientation 2023 Session 2 - Packaging Meals for End Hunger NE

Associate Director of Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen welcomed the second group of our newest Falcons, the Class of 2027, to our Recreation Center, to take part in packaging meals for End Hunger NE. Matthew, from End Hunger NE, and our Orientation Leaders, gave directions to our eager Falcons and set them on their way to packaging 15,000 meals. Thanks to all!

Summer Orientation 2023 - Session 2, Parent Information Panel

Director of Counseling Services/Assistant Dean, Student Affairs Dr. Robert Hynes welcomed parents to a panel presentation by Lindsay Carpenter Connors, Director of  Career Services and Advising Center, Disability Services, Kat McLellan, Director of Academic Coaching and Tutoring Center, and Kelly Goncalves, PA-C of Community Health Connections. Parents were informed of all of these, and more, student support services available to them at Fitchburg State University.
