Students in Dr. Robert Carr's Client Project Production course wasted no time and met with this semester's client, the Fitchburg Art Museum. After breaking into small groups and some initial strategizing, the class discussed their project, promotion of an upcoming exhibit,  with Curator Emily Mazzola, and Assistant Curator Sarah Harper of the Fitchburg Art Museum. 

Award-winning filmmaker, Communications Media/Film/Video Concentration student, Tonia Magras continued filming "Do You Remember Me?" at our Nursing Program's Simulation Lab - which for today, served as a hospital for the filming. Toni is enlisting the services of other Communications Media/Film/Video Concentration students, along with Assistant Professor, Film and Video, Rachelle A. Dermer, to bring her project to fruition.

 Our Summer Institute for Journalism Education wrapped up today with presentations by English Studies Professor Collin Syfert Web Editor Mike Elfland (Worcester Telegram & Gazette), Editor John Osborn (The Harvard Press), and Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody.

As part of our Summer Institute for Journalism Education, Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody Introduced keynote speaker Author and journalism professor Dan Kennedy at the Fitchburg Historical Society. Mr. Kennedy discussed the future of local news during his keynote address.

Our Summer Institute for Journalism Education, a collaboration between our Communications Media and English Studies departments, is an inaugural program and is focused on the theme of "Teaching Tomorrow’s Citizens Today: News Literacy as a Tool for Critical Education." 

This institute is a wonderful opportunity to develop key concepts in your research, apply new lessons to the classroom, and address educators across the Commonwealth and beyond about issues facing journalism, news literacy, and new media technologies. 

Award winning Communications Media student Isaiah Manuel turned a Multi-Camera Television Production course into a Production Assistant position at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV). The course, taught by Professor Kevin McCarthy in conjunction with Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) during the Fall 2023, gave Isaiah the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in what it's like to produce a talk show. He, and other students, switched between various roles including control room operations (teleprompters, broadcast switchers, digital audio boards and lighting control panels), and studio roles (floor direction, camera operation, studio lighting, studio sound techniques). 

Communications Media Professor Kevin McCarthy met with students who will be taking part in our Study Abroad opportunity; Rhetoric in Greece and Travelogue Filmmaking which departs campus on June 7th. Today Professor McCarthy discussed media tools, storage, and logging procedures - the planning that needs to happen with travelogue filmmaking.

Communications Mediamajor, and Political Science minor, Joshua Cronin recently discussed his experience with Fitchburg State University's Summer Bridge Program. Joshua, who has been working with the staff at  Fitchburg Access Television's (FATV) this semester to produce a news program with fellow student Zoe Chrisostomides called North Central News remembers his experience as key to his attending Fitchburg State.
