Members of the Fitchburg State Falcons Football Team are on the quad today as part of their Be The Match Swab Event. Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukemia. For patients with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a cure exists. Be The Match® is a community of donors, volunteers, health care professionals and researchers who deliver cures by helping patients get the life-saving marrow transplant they need. It was a perfect October Saturday for our Homecoming Football Game and Senior Day. Alumni joined their fellow Falcons to cheer on our team, who took on UMASS Dartmouth at the newly renovated Elliot Field.
The Fitchburg State University Athletics Women's Volleyball Team is back on campus and held an early morning practice at the volleyball court near the Conlon Fine Arts Center. After choosing teams, and a "high stakes" round of Rock, Paper Scissors to see who served, the team played rounds in the morning sun.

Head Football Coach Scott Sperone invited Director of Counseling Services/Assistant Dean, Student Affairs Dr. Robert Hynes to speak with the players at this morning's team meeting. After introducing new team members, and letting the team know that he calls the games and is the "Voice of the Falcons", Dr. Hynes and told the players about the services available to them through the Counseling Services Center.

Fitchburg State University held its eighth annual National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society (NCAHS) induction ceremony on Monday, with 36 student-athletes being recognized for their academic achievements.
The National College Athlete Honor Society was founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. on May 17, 1996, as a student-athlete honor society for the recognition of high academic achievers and sport letter-winners as the collegiate level.
There are 269 chapters of the NCAHS, Chi Alpha Sigma across the country with Fitchburg State University designated as the Sigma Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma.
