We are excited to welcome more than 800 new undergraduate Falcons to campus this semester, more than half of whom moved in on Monday, Sept. 4. The incoming class includes students from 27 states. Our first-year orientation programs began Monday afternoon and continue through Wednesday, with the start of the fall semester classes on Thursday, Sept. 7.

After a brief Get to Know You activity, and an introduction by Director of International Education Nelly Wadsworth,  President Lapidus, along with Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Franca Barricelli welcomed our newest cohort of International students at their orientation in the Hammond Maine Lounge.

Our fourth Summer Orientation 2023 continued with information session, where both parents and students learned about Financial Aid, Campus Safety with  Fitchburg State University Police, Academic Transitions with members of our Academic Coaching and Tutoring Center, and what a Fitchburg State University experience and education offers.

We are very excited to welcome our Incoming students for the fourth and final session of our Summer Orientation 2023 this morning. After ID photos and some general "housekeeping",  our newest Falcons, the Class of 2027  received boisterous welcome remarks from Associate Dean for Student Development Hank Parkinson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless in the Hammond Main Lounge. After introduction of our Orientation Leaders, groups ventured out to the quad for some ice breaker activities, then to a day full of information sessions and activities.

The campus welcomed representatives from colleges and universities across Massachusetts on today for the the Veterans Certifying Official Conference sponsored by the state Department of Higher Education. Certifying officials on campuses help student veterans get the GI Bill benefits to which they are entitled. President Lapidus greeted the conference attendees, who took part in sessions on topics related to supporting student veterans on campus and helping them complete their academic goals. Associate Director of Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen welcomed the second group of our newest Falcons, the Class of 2027, to our Recreation Center, to take part in packaging meals for End Hunger NE. Matthew, from End Hunger NE, and our Orientation Leaders, gave directions to our eager Falcons and set them on their way to packaging 15,000 meals. Thanks to all!
