Our newest Falcons, along with their families & friends, viewed multiple presentations and information sessions today as part of our Summer Orientation 2024. Presentations from Commuter Affairs, Capital Planning & Maintenance, Chartwells Dining Service and Housing and Residential Services, among others, all designed to ease the students into their new home here at Fitchburg State University. 

The 7th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC)  class began their motor vehicle law training today at the McKay Campus School.

The first session of our Summer Orientation 2024 continued with an Opportunities & Outcomes session, where both parents and students learned what a Fitchburg State University experience and education offers.  Associate Dean for Student Development Michael Kennedy served as moderator for a panel made up of current students and alumni who answered questions about their own experiences and successes as Fitchburg State University Falcons. Orientation Leaders performed skits during "breaks in the action."

We are very excited to welcome our Incoming students for the first of four sessions of our Summer Orientation 2024 this morning. After ID photos and some general "housekeeping",  our newest Falcons, the Class of 2028,  received boisterous welcome remarks from Associate Dean for Student Development Michael Kennedy, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Patricia Marshall, and Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless in the Weston Auditorium. After introduction of our Orientation Leaders, groups ventured out to the quad for some ice breaker activities, then to a day full of information sessions and activities.

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders, who are on campus preparing for orientation sessions for our newest Falcons, The Class of 2028, gathered in front of Hammond Hall for a tour of Fitchburg, MA yesterday afternoon  with Associate Director of Student Development, Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen acting as Tour Guide. The trip included many points of interest including the Fitchburg Abolitionist Park, Fitchburg Art Museum, Cogshall Park, and Rollstone Hill Quarries. Other points of interest like shopping, restaurants, and local landmarks were pointed out during the drive.

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders spent some of their training time learning from Director for Student Diversity, Equity and Belonging Programs, and our Center for Diversity and Inclusiveness,Junior Peña         They took self inventories and discussed those, as well as various scenarios that may come up during our Summer Orientation, giving them the tools to handle various situations.

Today, Fitchburg State University is hosting the 12th Annual  Mental Health & Law Enforcement Conference. This day-long event is designed for Police, First Responders, Emergency Service providers, Department of Mental Health, NAMI, Justice System partners, and other interested parties to come together and focus on mental health issues in their respective professions.

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders met with members of the Fitchburg State University Police Department for introductions, background information, and the chance to ask questions. Chief Michael Cloutier, Lieutenants Phillip Karampatsos & Andrew Lamarche, Patrol Sergeants Maxwell Sumner & Andrew Himmer, and  Detective Sergeant Richard Nelson were on hand to meet the Orientation Leaders and take questions at the Hammond Main Lounge.
