This morning, the 8th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC)  class had their second day of Criminal Law training with Capt. Ronald Young. In this course, the class will learn about case law and how it affects various court cases.

Summer Orientation Leaders - Back on Campus

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders came back to  campus yesterday and will be  preparing for our  Summer Orientation 2025 Sessions for our newest Falcons. After moving in, and reconnecting over lunch, the Orientation Leaders began a week of training, including working on their S.M.A.R.T. Goals in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge.

Center for Teaching and Learning - Information Literacy Instruction Workshop

Members of our faculty recently took part in an information literacy instruction workshop funded by the Academic Affairs Academic Innovation Fund award. in the Center for Teaching and Learning The  two-day workshop, hosted by The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library, aimed to provide faculty a foundation for understanding Information Literacy (IL) as defined by the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL), as well as the University's General Education program. The workshop  addressed methods for teaching students essential IL skills and concepts in a constantly shifting information landscape.

Maine Bands Receive Feedback

Last week, the bands from Old Town Elementary School and J.A. Leonard Middle School of Old Town, Maine performed in Weston Auditorium. The bands visited Fitchburg State to perform three selections each where they received valuable feedback from Dr. Amy McGlothlin of our Music Department as part of their annual Band Festival Trip.

Fitchburg State University Police Program 8th ROC - First Responder Scenarios

As part of their first responder training, the 8th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) were run through various first responder scenarios. Course instructors  Fitchburg State University Police Sgt. Timothy Grant and Sgt. Frank Eldridge Newton Police Department (Retired) were assisted by Fitchburg State University Police Officer Dylan Soldi, and two 7th ROC graduates and active police officers Lee and Luby.

North Central Massachusetts Diverse & Small Business Opportunity Fair

Yesterday afternoon, Fitchburg State University, The Supplier Diversity Office, and the City of Fitchburg hosted the North Central Massachusetts Diverse & Small Business Opportunity Fair in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge. This, a diverse and small business opportunity fair, served as a great opportunity to network with public buyers and other business owners including; North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, MBTA,  MassHire, Massachusetts Department of Correction. Attendees were also be able to attend workshops held by the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) and Operational Services Division (OSD).

Around Campus - Brian Lacombe Retires

It was bittersweet as the Fitchburg State University bid a fond farewell to long-time Materials Management employee Brian Lacombe, Storekeeper IV, who is retiring after well over two decades with the university. Brian touched so many during his tenure and this afternoon saw the result of this good will as so many gathered in the Falcon Hub to share how much he will be missed. Good luck Brian, we will miss your "patented smile!"

ROTEL Wrap-up Party

Yesterday, the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library hosted the ROTEL (Remixing Open Textbooks through an Equity Lens) wrap-up party in the Falcon Hub. Many textbooks have been authored by Fitchburg State University faculty members including  Michael Hove (Psychological Science), Peter Staab (Mathematics), J.J. Sylvia IV (Communications Media) and Kisha Tracy (English Studies).
