The 8th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) emersed in domestic violence response class with Instructors Maura Landry, MPTC Domestic Violence State Coordinator and Chief Williams of the East Longmeadow Police Department. A law enforcement officer plays a critical role in stopping domestic violence and helping victims break the cycle of violence. Domestic violence training for officers is essential to understand how to best respond to these incidents and what steps are the most important when it comes to keeping victims safe and building a case against an offender.

Former Criminal Justice Professor and Fitchburg Councilor-at-Large Elizabeth Walsh & Alyne Butland talked with Board President Jim McGrath and Paula Giaquinto of the Friends of Fitchburg Park at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV), a frequent collaborator and partner of the university, for Inside Fitchburg. Coincidentally, Coggshall Park and Fitchburg State University were both founded in 1894.

Fitchburg State University Police Program ROC - Morning Routine

The 8th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) began the day as they do  just about every day with physical training (PT) at Elliot Field. After a quick break to shower, they have an inspection at the McKay Campus School before a day of classwork.

This week, the 8th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) is off campus for their Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC). EVOC is a specialized training program designed to equip law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively operate emergency vehicles. This training is crucial for officers who may need to respond to emergencies, pursue suspects, or navigate challenging road conditions while under pressure.

UBMS & Dual Enrollment Programs -  Orientation

Assistant Director. Upward Bound Math & Science Andrew K. Pottorff held orientation for new and returning students enrolled in our Early College Dual Enrollment, and Upward Math and Science Programs in the Randall Lecture Hall. Upward Bound is a year-round, college readiness program funded by the Department of Education and sponsored by Fitchburg State University since 1989. The program stresses academic development, serving high school students in Fitchburg and Leominster for the duration of their high school career and beyond.

University Hosts Veteran Schools Certifying Conference

Fitchburg State University President Donna Hodge, Secretary of Executive Office of Veterans Services Jon Santiago, and Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs & Student Success Richard Riccardi welcomed representatives from colleges and universities across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, today for the the Veterans Certifying Official Conference sponsored by the state Department of Higher Education. Certifying officials on campuses help student veterans get the GI Bill benefits to which they are entitled. Assistant Commissioner for Academic & Veterans Affairs George O'Connor  greeted the conference attendees who will take part in sessions on topics related to supporting student veterans on campus and helping them complete their academic goals.
