Today was a beautiful day for our second Fall Open House. Our Open Houses are  an ideal way for perspective students to find out everything they want to know about Fitchburg State University. After a welcome from President Hodge, attendees took part in information sessions - where they had the opportunity to meet with faculty, current students, coaches, and staff, and later were able to tour the campus. Students in Biology and Chemistry Professor Billy Samulak's General Chemistry Lab work on an experiment in the Antonucci Science Complex. The course explores the fundamental laws and theories of chemistry such as atomic structure, the periodic table, electrochemistry, descriptive inorganic chemistry, the gas laws, solutions, equilibrium calculations and chemical bonding. Chemical calculations are emphasized. 

Fine Art Professor Andrea Olmstead  introduced her former teacher Artist Chuck Stigliano for his Artist Talk at the opening of his exhibit: "We Are Not Okay" in the Hammond Gallery. He discussed his thought-provoking woodcarvings which will be on display through Friday, Dec. 13 in the art gallery inside Hammond Hall. 

Students in Professor Michael S. McCutcheon's Criminal Investigation course learned how different chemical agents are used to detect blood, or products used to clean up the blood. Learn more about our Criminal Justice Program here. 

When you have an unseasonably warm October day in North Central Massachusetts, you don't let it go to waste, which is likely why Mathematics Professor Nermin Bayazit recently held her Informal Math Modeling class outside on the Alumni Plaza. The course covers relations, patterns and functions using multiple representations and focusing on the manner in which these concepts connect to mathematical ideas specified in the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks.

Yesterday afternoon, the Career Services and Advising Center held an  Exploration Fair in the Hammond Main Lounge.  Fitchburg State University's School of Graduate, Online and Continuing Education (SGOCE) along with local university's graduate school programs, provided this as opportunity for schools to meet the talented students at Fitchburg State University, and connect with potential graduate students. This was an opportunity for our students to learn about graduate school programs, and receive information about the application process.

The lure of a free taco at  yesterday afternoon's  Career Services and Advising (CSA) Let's Taco 'Bout Your Career Event was irresistible. In this unique way to get students to start thinking about their next steps, in exchange for creating and posting a career goal, students earned a free taco! 

Professor Ronald Krieser's genetics lab used a fluoroscope to identify mitochondria within cells that they manipulated at the Antonucci Science Building. Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that uses X-rays to obtain real-time moving images of the interior of an object. Learn more about our Biology Programs here.

Fitchburg State University’s instrumental and choral ensembles performed a joint concert last evening in Weston Auditorium. The concert program served as  a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the university’s choirs, bands and orchestra. Ensembles included Fitchburg State students, community members, faculty and staff. Faculty members Jonathan Harvey, Amy McGlothlin, and Hildur Schilling hosted and performed with their respective group. Learn more about our Music Programs here.
