Around Campus - The Art of Puppetry

Yesterday, students in Professor Sally Moore's The Art of Puppetry class work on various elements of their puppet. The course explores shape, form and movement as it relates to character, mood and atmosphere. The history of the art of puppetry from around the world is discussed through images, videos and readings. Students learn how to construct masks, shadow puppets, hand and rod puppets, and marionettes, and will work in groups to put on performances of folk tales from various parts of the world. Puppetry is also examined as a tool in education, therapy and advertising.

Around Campus - Nursing Simulation Laboratory

Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to a hospital simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. In this scenario, Kevin has obstructive kidney stones. After the simulation, the class meets to discuss the experience.

Criminal Justice Internship Seminar

Criminal Justice (CJ) students currently enrolled in an internship participate in a monthly seminar held by Dr. David Weiss, this in addition to the field experience they gain. During the seminar, students share their experiences and develop a heightened awareness of their roles in the organizations in which they are functioning.

Around Campus - Ceramics: Coil Method

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics class worked on vessels they made using the coil method of pottery. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders). The potter rolls the clay into coils, stacks the coils together, and joins the coils through pressure creating a vessel. Learn more about our Fine Art Program here.

FATV - Barbara & You

At Fitchburg Access Television (FATV), a frequent collaborator and partner of the university, during the recording of a local mainstay, the Barbara & You program - often touted as one of  the longest running talk show in the country with the same host. Around Campus - Sound Design

Earlier this semester, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Sound Design course got a tour of the Sound Studio in Conlon. Professor McCarthy pointed out the unique assets in the studio, including a Whisper Booth; a soundproof chamber to record voice-over audio. The Course examines the elements of post-production sound design within the context of film and video production. It blends the artistic and the technical. wherein students use nonlinear editors, digital audio work stations and analog and digital recording equipment to design soundtracks for film and video productions.

Around Campus - Acting for the Camera

Students in Theater Professor Mary Vreeland's  Acting for the Camera course, An intensive scene study course for the advanced student actor, spent their class time recording short commercial scripts for the camera. The scene was reviewed and Professor Vreeland and the rest of the class gave immediate feedback.

Health Sciences Career Fair

This afternoon, the university's Career Services and Advising Center sponsored a Health Sciences career fair in the Hammond Main Lounge. The program was open to all students in all majors, with a focus on positions in; nursing, biology, chemistry, and exercise and sports science.
