Around Campus - Ceramics

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics class work on their projects in Conlon Fine Arts. This course introduces students to the basic methods and techniques of designing and creating with clay as a medium. Around Campus - Costume Design

Students in Theater Professor Ellen (Cap) Corduan's work on projects in their Costume Design course. In this course, the history of fashion silhouette is explored along with the design elements used in developing a character's costume. Students will apply historical perspective and utilize the design elements of line, texture, color and gesture in designing costumes.

Criminal Justice Professor Eileen Kirk welcomed alumni to her First Year Experience (FYE): Behavioral Sciences course today to discuss various aspects of the criminal justice system. Nicole Berthiaume'06,'13 of LifeStance Health, Maeghan Alansky '24 of the  Fitchburg District Court, Travis Morcaldi '22, '23 of the Fitchburg Police Department, and Jevon Brown-Simpson '18 of the Massachusetts Department of Correction discussed their experiences at Fitchburg State University and how it lead them to their current careers.

President Hodge Tours Nursing Simulation Lab

Nursing Simulation Lab Director Ian Murray, Nursing Department Chair Deborah Benes, and Nursing faculty Heather Wironen gave a tour of our Nursing Simulation Lab. After the tour, President Hodge shared; "That’s why this program matters so much. What I saw in the lab—students practicing with focus and humanity—reminded me that investing in nursing education is not just about the university. It’s about the quality of care every one of us hopes for when we or someone we love needs it most."

Banned Books Week Event - Censoring Local Author and Alum Robert Cormier

The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library hosted Banned Books Week events: Censoring local author Robert Cormier where Instruction & Community Engagement Librarian Olivia Rossetti, Dean of the Library Jacalyn Kremer, and Reference & Research Services Librarian Meghan Kelly read archival materials related to the censorship of local author and alum  Robert Cormier's work. Cormier’s novel The Chocolate War, was one of the most censored novels at the time of its publication as part of the first wave of book challenges and bans in the United States.

Second Annual Superintendent & Legislator Breakfast

This morning, President Donna Hodge and Dean of Education, Mojdeh Bayat welcomed local School Superintendents and Legislators to an informal discussion, and Q & A session in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge. The panel consisted of; State Representative Natalie M. Higgins, representing the 4th Worcester District, Fitchburg State University alum State Representative Michael Kushmerek, State Senator John J. Cronin, representing the Worcester and Middlesex District, from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, welcome Senior Associate Commissioner Darcy Fernandes & Associate Commissioner Elizabeth Bennett, and from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs and Student Success Richard Riccardi. They were all available to answered questions on a wide range of topics facing education in Massachusetts.
