CTL Presents: Active Learning Classroom Show and Tell

In our perpetual effort to provide a better, more accessible education, our Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) sponsored a Show & Tell in one of our Active Learning Classrooms in the newly renovated portion of Thompson Hall yesterday afternoon. An Active Learning Classroom is designed to invite flexible teaching and experimentation in pedagogy, configured to maximize active, collaborative learning and multimodal teaching, in contrast with traditional lecture-style classrooms. Drs. Jannette McMenamy, J.J. Silvia, Elise Takehana, Kisha Tracy present how they are currently utilizing the Active Learning Classrooms.

Careers in Law Enforcement Fair

This afternoon, the Fitchburg State University Career Services and Advising Center sponsored a Law Enforcement Career Fair, open to anyone interested in careers in law enforcement and policing. First-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, especially those in our Criminal Justice program, were strongly encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to connect with employers looking  to hire Fitchburg State students. Police Program Draws International Attention

Fitchburg State University welcomed a delegation from the nation of Moldova to campus this week to demonstrate its groundbreaking police program, whose graduates complete two academic degrees and full municipal police academy training in the span of five years.

University President Richard S. Lapidus, Fitchburg Police Chief Ernest F. Martineau and Fitchburg State Academy Director Lisa Lane McCarty outlined the program for the delegation, including police and education leaders from the Eastern European nation.

Health Sciences Career Fair

This afternoon, the university's Career Services and Advising Center sponsored a Health Sciences career fair in the Hammond Main Lounge. The program was open to all students in all majors, with a focus on positions in; nursing, biology, chemistry, and exercise and sports science.

Sales Management Course - Guest Speaker

Business Administration students exploring sales management with Associate Professor John Lohmann got a master class in sales techniques Thursday with guest speaker Eric Lipsitt, president of Computrition. Lipsitt’s company works with hospitals to automate food and nutrition services, ensuring patients receive appropriate meals.

Lipsitt - who has known Professor Lohmann since their own college days - discussed the foundational importance of tracking customer relationship management and continued self-assessment. “If you don’t measure it, it doesn’t get done,” Lipsitt said. “You continually have to reassess.”

He also told the students that their educational training would not cease when they completed their degrees. “Learning doesn’t stop when you leave here,” he said. “You’re still going to go to conferences and read books.”

Young Falcons Academy Week - End of Week Wrap Up

Associate Director of Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen donned his chef's jacket and Mardi Gras beads to cook up some waffles with the rest of the Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs crew at this morning's Waffles and Scholarships event. Commuters stopped by the G-lobby in Hammond Hall to grab a waffle or two and to learn more about the 200 scholarships, worth over $250,000. that are available. Fitchburg State University Performing Arts Center - Legislative Luncheon

Earlier today, Fitchburg State University President Richard S. Lapidus welcomed legislators and honored guests to outline the plans for the Fitchburg State University Performing Arts Center as an economic driver for the North Central Massachusetts area. After welcoming remarks from President Lapidus, Senator John Cronin, Representative Michael Kushmerek, and Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale addressed the guests.  After outlining the benefits of the Performing Arts Center to downtown Fitchburg, President Lapidus welcomed President & CEO, North Central MA Chamber of Commerce Mr. Roy Nascimento to illustrate the benefits to the region as a whole. Attendees were then invited to tour the former Fitchburg Theater - the proposed location for Phase 3 of the project.

Faculty Development Day
