Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics put some final touches on vessels using the coil method of pottery. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders). The potter rolls the clay into coils, stacks the coils together, and joins the coils through pressure creating a vessel. Learn more about our Fine Art Program here.

Fine Art Professor Andrea Olmstead introduced her former teacher Artist Chuck Stigliano for his Artist Talk at the opening of his exhibit: "We Are Not Okay" in the Hammond Gallery. He discussed his thought-provoking woodcarvings which will be on display through Friday, Dec. 13 in the art gallery inside Hammond Hall.

Fitchburg State University’s instrumental and choral ensembles performed a joint concert last evening in Weston Auditorium. The concert program served as a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the university’s choirs, bands and orchestra. Ensembles included Fitchburg State students, community members, faculty and staff. Students in Andrea Olmstead's Three Dimensional Design class work on face pots in the Conlon Fine Arts building. In this studio art class students have the opportunity to explore a variety of materials such as wood, clay, wire, and plaster in their creations. They will discuss how the various elements of 3 dimensional design (line, plane, mass, volume, texture, space, light) can be organized effectively to create intriguing objects.

This afternoon, Dr. Amy McGlothlin, Program Director for our Creative Arts Therapies program, and Dr. Jonathan Harvey, Program Director for our Creative Arts Enterprise program hosted a Meet & Greet and Information Session in the Conlon Fine Arts building. This gathering gave an opportunity for current majors to speak with faculty and other students in the programs, as well as an information session for current students interested in the programs.

Humanities Professor Petri Flint works with students in his Introductory Painting class. This is a studio course studies the basic problems of form, color, and texture as understood in oil. Consideration is also given to the nature and use of the oil painting materials themselves.
