Our newest Nursing Student cohort in the START STRONG; Your Nursing Journey Begins Here program spent this morning with tours of our Nursing Foundations Labs - where they will be spending a lot of time. Nursing faculty and current students took questions about the Nursing program and what to expect in their first year.

This morning, the university  welcomed members of our newest Nursing Student cohort to campus for the START STRONG; Your Nursing Journey Begins Here program. After checking in, settling in the dorm, and breakfast, President Hodge welcomed the newest Falcons. Afterward, Nursing Program Professor Karen Beaton. along with current students and faculty, began an array of activities with the students.

Professor Karen Beaton instructs the Nursing Care of The Family Nursing course in Thompson Hall, having students work in groups to sharpen their care diagnostic skills. Students in the course are enrolled in our LPN to BS in Nursing Bridge Program. 

Last week, nursing students and their faculty held an unconventional way of studying for the NCLEX exam, The exam was developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to test the competency of nursing school graduates in the U.S. and Canada. This Family Feud style battle was played by teams named The Specialties, SSRawrIs. The Carebears, A&Ox4, Vibes and Vitals and the faculty team - The Brainy Bunch.

Last week, the Exercise and Sports Science department gathered in Hammond Main Lounge for their annual Internship Presentations & Awards luncheon. It was an afternoon of showcasing hard work, professional growth, and the future of the field.

 Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Engineering Technology, and Mathematics faculty and Student Mentors involved in the National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM Project gathered in Presidents Hall for the NSF S-STEM Program Year 1 Wrap Up and Celebration. Members of the first year cohort, along with their Student Mentors were recognized for their involvement in this program. The project is committed to improving STEM majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Engineering Technology, and Mathematics student experience.  

Last week, our  Exercise and Sports Science students took "pushing your limits" to a whole new level. They transformed a section of  the North St. Exercise & Sports Science Lab into an 85°F heat chamber to test exactly how physical exertion impacts the body under pressure.

While one team monitored the subject’s vitals in the heat, another analyzed the data in real-time to evaluate the results. It’s real world hands-on science for our future sports pros.

The Engineering Technology Department recently held their annual BBQ on the Highland Ave. Prizes and certificates were awarded to our students for the 7th Annual Engineering Technology Student Project Competition. 

A team of faculty and student mentors involved in the S-STEM Project, along with some of our Fitchburg State University Engineering Technology Department's Industry Advisory Board (IAB) recently met in Presidents Hall for an information session about the S-STEM Project. The project is committed to improving  STEM majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information System, Engineering Technology, and Mathematics student  experience.
