The Center for Italian Culture's Nuovo Mondo series continues with the Dr. Joseph Luzzi Residency Keynote Address: "My Two Italies: A Personal and Cultural History." Dr. Luzzi, the Asher B. Edelman Professor of Literature at Bard College, is the child of Italian immigrants and an award-winning scholar of Italian literature. In this talk, Dr. Luzzi discussed the subject of Italian immigration to American, with special reference to his 2014 memoir, My Two Italies: A Personal and Cultural History. Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Franca Barricelli introduced Dr. Luzzi utilizing her collection of books he authored.

InTown Fitchburg First Thursday - North County Harvest Festival

Yesterday, as part of their First Thursday event series, InTown Fitchburg held the North County Harvest Festival at the Upper Common in Fitchburg. This free event included their Fitchburg Farmers Market with local vendors My County Mushrooms, Growing Places, and more. Baked goods from Mera's Cakes,  crafts from Westminster Hill Crafters, Hollis Hills Farm's pumpkins for painting  - with  painting supplies provided by Fitchburg Cultural Alliance. Entertainment included a live digital art presentation by Monique Reverie, and Hannah Bitterman, Noel Plouffe, and Laurie Strubbe of the  Thurston Consort performed.

First All Schools Meeting of the Semester

Dr. Jennifer Hanselman, Ph.D., Dean of Business and Technology & Dean of Health and Natural Sciences held the first All Schools meeting of the Fall semester yesterday afternoon in the Hammond Main Hall. Early on the agenda was the introduction of the newest Student Ambassadors for the schools, and a celebratory "champagne" toast to acknowledge all of the grant work, and grants awarded since last year.

Fitchburg State University Police Program 6th ROC - Graduation

The 11 members of the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) at Fitchburg State were sworn in as police officers on Friday September 15, 2023 before an audience of family, friends, elected leaders and public safety professionals. All of the graduates of our groundbreaking program have already been hired by police departments across the state. As the executive director of the Municipal Police Training Committee told the assembled graduates, they are poised to be future leaders in their profession. Good luck!

Industrial Arts - Engineering Technology Alumni Reunion

The festivities began with a Classic/Antique Car Show on Highland Ave. followed by  campus tours, and then a luncheon & reunion in the Falcon Hub. Rock the Block XXV

This afternoon, Student Development held Rock the Block XXV on Highland Ave & on the Main Quad. Rock the Block gives students a chance to connect with over 150 Clubs, Organizations, Departments and Non-Profits. There are a plethora of activities, including a water slide, dinner, dunk tank, ice cream truck, club demonstrations, free stuff and so much more!

Fitchburg State University Police Program 6th ROC - Graduation Rehearsal

Lisa Lane McCarty, Director of the Fitchburg State University Police Program, program staff, and the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) held a walk-through for tomorrow morning's Police Program Graduation: 6th ROC -  highlighted with the unveiling of the class video. Expected at the ceremony are President Lapidus, local dignitaries, members of police departments from across Massachusetts, as well as proud family members.

New Veterans Center Opening

President Lapidus presided over the ribbon-cutting for the new veterans center in Thompson Hall on Thursday, Sept. 7. In his remarks, President Lapidus described the university's proud history of supporting student veterans.

"After World War II, the GI Bill created opportunities for returning soldiers to pursue college degrees, and Fitchburg State was such a popular destination that we actually built barracks on-campus, just across the Quad from where we are now, where our science complex now stands," he said.
