In partnership with the Spanish American Center and Best Buy, Dean of Business and Technology Dr.Mahmoud Al-Odeh and Fitchburg State University are proud to host Geek Squad Academy's two-day camp that allows students to become "Junior Agents". Working alongside professional Geek Squad Agents, kids will develop tech skills, spark their creativity, build self-confidence, and explore future tech careers. Sessions include, game design, robotics, stop-motion film production, and digital music creation. After their welcome, Admissions Assistant Director Tyler Scipione shared all the opportunities here at Fitchburg State University where they can enlist their new skill set. We love seeing our campus transform into a hub for the next generation of innovators. Welcome to the academy, Junior Agents! 

Earlier this month, students in Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Professor J.J. Sylvia's  Issues in Digital Media Innovation course discussed their projects utilizing the 3-D printing process. This course offers students the opportunity to experiment with emerging digital tools while examining their impact on society, industry, and culture. Additionally, students will investigate both the research and career opportunities related to one of more of the pathways offered as part of the Digital Media Innovation major.

Yesterday afternoon, Communications Media Professors J.J. Sylvia IV and Kyle Moody moderated yesterday's Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Expo in Percival Hall. Presentations included the history of the Conlon Fine Arts Building and Holmes Dining Commons here on campus, as well as a 3D rendering project of Fitchburg in the 1890's and 2025. The event gave prospective and current students the opportunity to learn about the program, learn about the research and creative process behind their work, and meet faculty and students in DMI.

Students in Digital Media Innovation (DMI) Professor J.J. Sylvia's  Creative Coding class recently demonstrated their One Button Game MakeyMakey projects. Creative coding employs computer programming as a means of creative expression using algorithmic and generative art, data visualization, and storytelling techniques for applied projects. These skills are learned in the context of critical and cultural media studies and the digital humanities. 

This morning, Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody welcomed Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.  to view a presentation by students in his Social Media Advertising & PR course. The students spent the fall semester designing multimedia collateral for the Worcester County District Attorney’s public relations campaign to encourage safe driving for mobile phone users.

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics class work on their projects in Conlon Fine Arts. This course introduces students to the basic methods and techniques of designing and creating with clay as a medium. A variety of hand building and glazing techniques are introduced through the study of both sculptural and functional form. Learn more about our Fine Art Program here.

Fitchburg State University Communications Media major Joshua Cronin, who is producing North Central News on Fitchburg Access Television's (FATV), spent this afternoon with Fitchburg Public Library Director Deb Hinkle and  Co-Chair of the OWL Campaign Rob Favini for a segment on the progress of the library renovation. Josh and fellow senior Communications Media Zoe Chrisostomides recently won a National Hometown Media Award for Community Events, presented by the Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media for the 2024 Halloween edition of North Central News, read more about the award here.
