Students in Assistant Professor, Film and Video, Rachelle A. Dermer'sShort Film Story Development course prepare for the upcoming Screenplay Table Reads event featuring screenplays by students in Writing the Series & Short Film Story Development this Wednesday, December 20, 2023, 6 PM to 9 PM in the Ellis White Lecture Hall. Jonah Pishkin, with the help of fellow students playing various roles, conducts a table read of his script. Jonah is currently performing in  It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Wallace Theater for the Performing Arts in the McKay Complex.

Beginning this evening, the Communications Media Department will present its production of It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Wallace Theater for the Performing Arts in the McKay Complex. Written by Joe Landry and directed by Fitchburg State Professor Kelly Morgan and student Allison Thompson, the classic movie is retold as a charming 1940s-themed radio show, including a live Foley operator for sound effects. Students assist Technical Theater Professor Jo Nazro and continued building the  set for the upcoming production of It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Wallace Theater for the Performing Arts in the McKay Complex . Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody hosted an information session, along with fellow Communications Media Professors J.J. Sylvia IV and Randy Howe remotely, to discuss the MS in Applied Communication with students interested in perusing an advanced degree. 

Students in Professor M. Zachary Lee's Lighting course work together to recreate a scene in the TV Studio. The course provides an introduction to the techniques of lighting, both on location and in the studio. Topics covered in the class include the use of lighting instruments, lighting control media and devices, location lighting techniques, studio lighting techniques, camera movement, composition, metering, the use of lenses, electrical and safety considerations, grip techniques and equipment. Students in Dr. Robert Carr's Marketing Communication course work on their client-based Marketing Communication Plans during class as Dr. Carr advises each on their progress and helps work through any issues they may be having. These students, after learning and applying multiple marketing research methodologies to better understand a real world client, apply their research findings to produce a Marketing Communication Research Report, a Marketing Communication Plan, and a wide range of professional media that address the needs and challenges of their client.

Students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course spent this morning's class at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) doing a technical  run through in studio for their final production. Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) Production Assistant Jarrod Roberts was on hand to help out. After the run through, students and Professor Kevin McCarthy discussed plans for next weeks run through.

 Students in Theater Professor Mary Vreeland's Stage Movement course take turns  pantomime scenes for fellow students in Weston Auditorium. This workshop-oriented course utilizes the basis techniques of movement with emphasis on developing each student's potential for effective physicalization of a character on stage.

The CenterStage annual Faculty Show Gallery Reception was held yesterday afternoon in the Hammond Hall Art Gallery. The reception was included a film and video screening in Ellis White Lecture Hall. The Faculty Show will run until December 15th. To learn more, visit our CenterStage page.

Theater Professor Kelly Morgan broke students in his Directing the Play course into groups of actors and directors. Each were given a scene and strategy which they then workshopped in Weston Auditorium. Directing the Play is an introduction to the professional stage director. Students will study the work of great directors. They will stage short productions for the class. Students will learn to analyze and develop their scene work. Students will attend performances of productions on and off campus and actively analyze them in class.
