Today was a beautiful day for our second Fall Open House. Our Open Houses are an ideal way for perspective students to find out everything they want to know about Fitchburg State University. After a welcome from President Hodge, attendees took part in information sessions - where they had the opportunity to meet with faculty, current students, coaches, and staff, and later were able to tour the campus. Before this afternoon's football game, Homecoming Weekend continued with the Falcons Tailgate at the Wallace Civic Center parking lot. Fans and family alike geared up for the day’s games with their own tailgate cookout, along with Identity Coffee, photo station, giveaways and cornhole. If you stopped by President Hodge’s Tailgate Tent, you got one of President Hodge's, literally, branded Fitch-burgers. Afterward, the festivities will moved to Elliot Field where the Falcons football team took on the Mass. Maritime Academy Buccaneers.
Criminal Justice Professor Dr. David Weiss and recent Fitchburg State University Police Program graduate Officer Alex Stellato, Townsend Police worked with Fitchburg State University Police Program upperclassmen to stage a drug deal scenario to present to his Theory & Practices of Policing students. In this course students examine the nature, history, role, operations and management of law enforcement agencies. Additional topics to be explored include police powers, investigations, use and abuse of police force, police corruption, crime prevention and the future of policing.

This afternoon, Photographer Atom Moore, a 2005 Fitchburg State alumnus, discussed the exhibition, “Second Nature,” during a gallery talk in the Fiorentino Foyer adjacent to the Sanders Administration Building gallery space. This afternoon, Alumni and Giving hosted their annual Retired Educators Luncheon in the Hammond Hall Falcon Hub. After a welcome from Ms. Dawn Morton, ‘90, President of the Alumni Association, guests received a campus update from Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Jeffrey Wolfman. After that, Ms. Morton presented the Retired Educators scholarship to Alyssa St. Cyr '25, the 2023 Miller Award to Robert “Bob” Hogan, and the 2024 Miller Award to Francine Meigs.

Kerris '83, Vice President of Developer Relations, Head of Media and Entertainment, NVIDIA for the first ever Executive in Residence. Richard G. Kerris '83 shared his story in two sessions in Presidents Hall.

This year's Visions, a juried honors exhibit of the Communications Media Department, opened with an Alumni Panel in the Ellis White White Lecture Hall. This lively discussion was followed by The Gallery Opening, Game Design Showcase, Reception, and a Film & Video Screening in Weston Auditorium. Thank you to the alumni, jurors, Communications Media faculty, students, and staff. The Exhibit will run until June 30, 2024.

Theater Concentration, Communications Media Alum Steven Beck'23 played Peter Snyder, a schizophrenic patient who went off his medication. Our team of nursing students were directed to take vitals, administer medications, and were eventually able to get Peter to get from the floor to his bed.
