Students in our  Engineering Technology major recently presented their research at our Fitchburg State University Engineering Technology Department's Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting. 

Yesterday afternoon, the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library hosted an opening reception for local artist Ricardo Barros whose work is  featured in the  exhibition “Off the Hill: Portraits from within the Fitchburg Community.” Barros is a photographer, writer, curator, and filmmaker. His works are in the permanent collections of eleven museums, including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Museum of Art of São Paulo, and the Fitchburg Art Museum. Ricardo was awarded a Fellowship in Photography by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 1984 and 2021, and the Marlene and David Persky Present Tense Prize by ArtsWorcester in 2024. He recently moved to Fitchburg with his wife, artist Heather Barros. The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library is in Hammond Hall, located at 160 Pearl St. where the exhibit will run through March 31 in the library.

Students in Exercise and Sports Science Professor Jason Talanian's Exercise Testing and Prescription class recently had a session with Yoga & Meditation Instructor Anita Perry at our Recreation Center.

Nursing  students learn  tracheostomy in their Nursing Foundations Lab. A tracheostomy is a surgical opening in the neck to the windpipe (trachea) to insert a tube, which helps with breathing. In this course,  emphasis is placed on professionalism, caring, communication, cultural considerations, spirituality, sexuality and health promoting activities. 

The lure of a free taco at  this Tuesday's Career Services and Advising (CSA) Let's Taco 'Bout Your Career Event was irresistible. In this unique way to get students to start thinking about their next steps, in exchange for creating and posting a career goal, students earned a free taco! 

On Friday, Dean of the School of Business and Technology Dr.  Mahmoud Al-Odeh and Engineering Technology Department faculty welcomed local business partners to the  Fitchburg State University Engineering Technology Department's Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting. The meeting serves as an opportunity to get local industry leaders and educators together to discuss the university's role in employers human resources needs.

To celebrate International Education Week, our of Office of International Education (OIE) is holding themed days in their office as well as in our Holmes Dining Hall. The OIE is hosting Tea with OIE! with hot drinks and treats from around the world with different continents highlighted each day of the week. Chartwells Dining is curating a special international menu for each day of international week. In addition, the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library, will be  displaying a collection of maps, photographs, and texts that highlight Fitchburg State University's faculty-led study abroad locations. 

Teams of students in Exercise and Sports Science Professor Lindsay Parisi Exercise Physiology I Lab conducted an oxygenation experiment in the North St. Exercise & Sports Science Lab. In this course, human systemic response and adaptation to exercise and exercise training are studied in-depth. Topics included are epidemiology and physiology in health and disease, homeostasis and exercise metabolism, bioenergetics, nutrition, exercise and performance, exercise prescriptions for health, training, exercise and the environment and factors limiting performance. Laboratory experiences provide practical assessment skills as well as application of the scientific method to problems and issues in this field. 

Theater Professor Kelly Morgan enlisted the help of the  Drawbridge Puppet Theater in conjunction with the The Humanities and Education Departments to transform the Ellis White lecture Hall for a performance of Pinocchio. Professor Morgan's classes, Professor Joann Nichols' Arts Integration class as well as three classes from our McKay Campus Elementary School attended. 

Last evening, the Fitchburg State University community held its Annual Lighting of the Campus. Prior to the lighting, faculty, staff, and students gathered at Alumni Plaza near Thompson Hall for refreshments, games, conversation, and more. A procession then made it's way down Highland Ave. to the Highland  Plaza for the Annual Lighting of the Campus. After a welcome from Director of Presidential Events Shane Franzen, and remarks from Student Government Association (SGA) President Michael Burns and  President Hodge, the two led the crowd in a countdown to the lighting of the campus.
