Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to a hospital scenario as possible. In this scenario, Willie is recovering from surgery after a car accident.

The Fitchburg State University Young Falcons Academy Week kicked off today. Our Young Falcons Academy gives students from Fitchburg and Leominster public middle schools an opportunity to see what life as a college student is like. Today, after a tour of the campus, groups had various opportunities throughout the day. Some chose to learn about DNA mapping with Professor Erin Rehrig, others got to try their hands at making shadow puppets with Professors Sally Moore and Andrea Olmstead. These were just part of a busy day full of activities.

Associate Director of Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs Shane Franzen donned his chef's jacket and Mardi Gras beads to cook up some waffles with the rest of the Student Development & Commuter and Volunteer Affairs crew at this morning's Waffles and Scholarships event. Commuters stopped by the G-lobby in Hammond Hall to grab a waffle or two and to learn more about the 200 scholarships, worth over $250,000. that are available. A late February snow storm gave the campus a wintery coating.

Students in Professor Samuel Tobin's Elements of Game Design course work out, and try out, their classmates re-envisioning/re-utilization of old standby tabletop games like checkers, chess, and cards. Using the elements of these games as a launch point, students are tasked with creating a new game. 

This course introduces students to the process of planning and designing the interactive experience of game play. Students will develop a critical understanding of the formal, dramatic, and systems elements of games across a wide range of game styles and genres, from traditional physical games and sports to video games.

Alpha Sigma Tau chose today, #RandomActsOfKindnessDay, to hold their Take a Note, Leave a Note event. A message of inspiration and kindness was collected and replenished for the next participant. Learn more about Alpha Sigma Tau and Greek Life here.

The Fitchburg State University Mathematics Department held aa Alumni Panel Discussion & Networking session in Thompson hall. The event served as an opportunity for students to learn about different career paths possible with a mathematics degree.  It also provided a connection between current students and alumni working in their respective fields.

Students decided to have a Community Puzzle Pop Up challenge on the street level of Hammond Hall, just because. Students could stop by for as long as they wanted to contribute to the completion of the puzzle. Whatever progress they made was left for the next participants.

With the help of some towels and safety pins, students in Theater Professor Kelly Morgan's Stage Movement course learned how to carry themselves with royal airs in Weston Auditorium. This workshop-oriented course utilizes the basis techniques of movement with emphasis on developing each student's potential for effective physicalization of a character on stage.

The Office of International Education hosted a Study Abroad Fair this afternoon in the Hammond Main Lounge. Students had the convenience of asking about the many study abroad opportunities available to them here at Fitchburg State University in one location. Programs available in 2024 include; Peace Studies in Ireland, Rhetoric in Greece - Communications Program, Nursing Program in Costa Rica, Arts and Game Design Program in Japan.
