At a last week's “Defensive Training Friday”, the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's   Recruit Officer Course (ROC). They learned how to handle the escalation of hand-to-hand confrontation. They have now had over 70 hours of De-escalation/Use of Force training. This Friday is their practical test out where they must demonstrate proficiency in a series of skills in order to pass. Good luck to all the recruits!

This afternoon, Professors Elisabet Takehana & J.J. Sylvia of our Communications Media's Digital Media Innovation program discussed burgeoning topics in the realm of communications with the Fitchburg State University Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students. Among the many subjects, AI and its implications were discussed.

Last week, the Fitchburg State University Center for Professional Studies' held week one of their Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI). One of the courses, US Government and Politics, offered for the new and experienced teachers who wanted to learn how to teach the new AP course that recently went into effect.

Yesterday, Fitchburg State University's Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students took part in community service as part of their Day of Service. Groups cleaned up the areas around Fitchburg's iconic Monument Park, Fitchburg's Senior Center, Fitchburg Rail Trail, Leominster Senior Center, and the Leominster Rail Trail. Afterward they enjoyed lunch and a host of activities at another iconic location in Fitchburg; Saima Park.

Earlier this week, the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's  Recruit Officer Course (ROC)h had their second day of “Interacting with Persons in Crisis” training with (Ret.) Commander David Avery (Randolph PD) and Clinician Lori Myles.

Today, Fitchburg State University's Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students took part in community service as part of their Day of Service. This group was located at Fitchburg's iconic Monument Park, as well as the nearby Fitchburg Senior Center. Other groups performed their service at Fitchburg Rail Trail, Leominster Senior Center, and the Leominster Rail Trail. It won't be all work, the service will be followed by a a lunch and  fun activities afterward.

Fitchburg State University Center for Professional Studies' Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI)  AP Studio Art Summer Institute for new and experienced teachers of AP explore the 3D Art and Design, 2D Art and Design and Drawing portfolios. Studio sessions facilitate the creation of valuable curricula through corresponding art making.

Today, family members and other honored guests came to see the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's  Recruit Officer Course (ROC) in action, and to learn more about the groundbreaking program that university and state leaders hope marks a new direction for the police profession.

The Fitchburg State University Center for Professional Studies' Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) first week is in full swing. In the AP Biology track, High School Teachers are conducting a week long transpiration experiment. The APSI are designed to support all aspects of AP courses, including AP methodology, curriculum, class assignments and examinations as well as providing strategies for teaching AP courses.

Today, Fitchburg State University's Upward Bound  Math and Science Summer Program students took a trip to Grove Pond in Ayer, MA to lend a hand to PACE (People of Ayer Concerned about the Environment) with their Water Chestnut Pull at Grove Pond. This annual program enlists the public's help to pull out invasive water chestnuts from the pond as well as the Nashua River Watershed.
