The Biology, Chemistry, and Earth & Geographic Sciences departments held their annual science symposium Tuesday afternoon at the Lisciotti pavilion in the Antonucci Science Building as part of our S.T.E.M. Week events. This is an event where the science faculty present posters on their research to get students interested and involved in the sciences. The Bio Chem Club was there to celebrate Mole Day, which commemorates Avogadro's number , ( 6.02 × 10²³ ) by making moles.

Yesterday afternoon Jacalyn Kremer, Dean of the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library, and her staff  hosted a Drag Queen Story Hour as part of the university's celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month. 

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics continue working on vessels  using the coil method of pottery. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders). The potter rolls the clay into coils, stacks the coils together, and joins the coils through pressure creating a vessel. Learn more about our Fine Art Program here.

Biology and Chemistry Professor Elizabeth DiLoreto reviews skeletal structure with students in her Human Anatomy & Physiology I Lab in the Antonucci Science Complex. The course explores the structure and function of the human organism on the cellular, tissue, organ, and system levels. Cellular metabolism, histology, and the following systems: skeletal, muscular, and nervous (including the special senses) are examined. The laboratory emphasizes both physiology and the dissection of preserved mammalian specimens. 

Therapy dogs Daisy, Penny, Mocha, and Silas visited the Hammond Main Lounge yesterday afternoon. These therapy dogs, some dressed in Halloween costumes, were a welcome respite from the stress that comes with the semester's workload. Keep your eyes on University Events for future visits.

Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody gives feedback in his Social Media Advertising & Public Relations course. This course explores and defines content creation strategies for various media and platforms. Students propose portfolio pieces that match advertising packages across multiple modalities, and draft material that illustrates how to shift messaging across social media and advertising packets across platforms. Students draft marketing strategies, social media campaigns, PR outreach strategies, and learn to leverage relationships to craft materials that reflect holistic and engaged social media strategies.

Fitchburg State University’s instrumental and choral ensembles performed a joint concert last evening in Weston Auditorium. The concert program served as  a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the Community Orchestra, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, the new Falcon Drumline, and the Fitchbyrds Modern Jazz Band. Ensembles included Fitchburg State students, community members, faculty and staff. Students from English Studies Professor Katharine Covino's FYE course - "What Do We Owe Ourselves? & What Do WE Owe Each Other?" - completed a Day of Service at the Fitchburg State University Falcon Bazaar Food Pantry and Professional Clothing Closet. After a quick tour of the well stocked and organized Falcon Bazaar Food Pantry Graduate Assistant, Office of Student Engagement Caitlin Moriarty brought the students to the nearby Professional Clothing Closet where she needed some serious help. After some instructions, students organized clothing by size, color, and type, and some general "housekeeping."

Our Fitchburg State Choirs, under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Harvey, practice for this evening's Fall Music Mega Mix in Weston Auditorium. The concert program is a showcase of “bite-sized” performances by the university’s choirs, bands and orchestra. Performers will include Fitchburg State students as well as faculty members. Last week, the Fitchburg State University Career Services and Advising Center sponsored a Major and Minor Discovery Fair in the Hammond Main Lounge. This gave students an opportunity to explore a diverse range of majors and minors for every interest. Students were able to engage with faculty members and current students who shared their experiences and insights, offering a deeper understanding of each program's unique offerings, career prospects, and real-world applications.
