This morning, our newest Falcons, the Class of 2026, met with Department Deans & Chars, and Academic Advising at their Summer Orientation 2022 in the Holmes Dining Commons. These first year students got a chance to go over their schedules as well as learn more about their chosen majors.

This morning saw the first session in our Summer Orientation 2022 for Incoming first year students. Our newest Falcons, the Class of 2026, began the day with welcome remarks from Associate Dean for Student Development Hank Parkinson, Vice President for Student Affairs Laura Bayless, and Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Catherine Canney. After introduction of our Orientation Leaders by Joseph Flanagan, groups ventured out to the quad for some ice breaker activities, then to a day full of information sessions and activities.

Our Office of Student Development Student Orientation Leaders are on campus preparing for orientation sessions for our newest Falcons, The Class of 2026. This afternoon, Associate Dean for Student Development Dr. Hank Parkinson described, and then refereed a rousing game of OmniKin Ball on our Quad. A newly expanded partnership between Fitchburg State University and the Fitchburg Public Schools is designed to increase the number of teacher candidates who are representative of the local community demographics, with a mixture of scholarship and experiential support and guaranteed jobs with the school district following completion of their college degrees.
Fitchburg State President Richard S. Lapidus and Fitchburg Public Schools Superintendent Robert M. Jokela signed the new memorandum of agreement for the pathway program on Thursday, May 5.
“Since our founding in 1894, Fitchburg State has been supporting our communities by preparing highly qualified educators for schools in Massachusetts and beyond,” President Lapidus said. “This partnership builds on that history, supporting the evolving needs of our communities while creating singular opportunities for Fitchburg State students.”

After lunch in the Holmes Dining Commons today, during this weeks Young Falcon Academy Spring Session, students from Fitchburg's public schools, got a chance to have some fun in our Game Room with some of our staff, and students, as well as work on an art piece with Professors Petri Flint and Andrea Olmstead. Young Falcon Academy, a program sponsored by our School of Education, offers students from local public schools the opportunity to get a week long immersive experience here on campus.

It's school vacation week in Massachusetts and our Admissions Welcome Center has been rolling out the red carpet for students and their families that are interested in becoming Fitchburg State University Falcons. The Future Educator Academy at Fitchburg State University welcomed more than 20 local high school students to campus today for a day of programming. After a presentation by Lourdes Ramirez of our School of Education, Freshmen and Seniors worked with Dr. Erin Rehig of our School of Health and Natural Sciences, while Sophomores and Juniors learned about financial literacy from Dr. Michael Greenwood of our School of Business.

Our School of Graduate Online and Continuing Education (SGOCE) held a Graduate Fair yesterday in Hammond Hall. Fitchburg State University SGOCE along with local university's graduate school programs, provided this as opportunity for schools to meet the talented students at Fitchburg State University, and connect with potential graduate students. This was an opportunity for our students to learn about graduate school programs, and receive information about the application process.

Academic Coaching and Tutoring Center (ACT) visited the Gear Up Center at Fitchburg High School. Director of the ACT Center Kat McLellan, PhD, and Asst. Director of ACT were joined by Student Tutors Lia Reyes Jimenez, Olivia Willis, and Stephanie Amponmaah Boamah where they discuss future plans, college preparation, and the college experience with soon-to-be-graduates of Fitchburg High School. Future Falcons joined us at an admitted student open house to see what their life at Fitchburg State could be. The admitted students were able to attend information sessions and get an in depth look at their academic department, talk with current students, have financial aid questions answered, and more. The morning was capped off with the Future Falcon Day Celebration at our Recreation Center. After a welcome from President Richard Lapidus, Future Falcons, their families and guests, were able to mingle with a multitude of departments and student groups.
