Students in Communications Media's Assistant Professor, Film and Video, Rachelle A. Dermer's, Directing Video and Film course discuss director preparation in the Conlon Building. Topics covered in the class include script analysis and breakdowns, casting, blocking the camera and the actors, acting and directing actors. The class focuses on the relationships between the director and producer, actor, writer and editor, as well as between the director and the cinematographer.

This course blends theoretical and historical concepts associated with a selected genre, style or movement within a production course setting. Students study a selected genre, style or movement, and then, in groups, will write and produce a short film or digital video, based within the historical and/or theoretical framework that the class has studied.

Students in Communications Media's Professor Charles Roberts' Intermediate Digital Cinema Production work on an editing project. Intermediate Digitals Cinema Production covers professional production techniques used in modern narrative production environments. In addition to achieving competency in lighting, exposure, composition and framing with video cameras, students master the basics of audio production both on location and in studio environments and the editing of the dramatic narrative.

Students in Dr. Robert Carr's Client Project Production course wasted no time and met with this semester's client, the Fitchburg Art Museum. The class discussed their project, promotion of an upcoming exhibit with Fitchburg Art Museum Director Nick Capasso and Assistant Curator Sarah Harper.

Award-winning filmmaker, Communications Media/Film/Video Concentration student, Tonia Magras defended her thesis “Do you remember me?” in front of faculty from the Fitchburg State University Communications Media Department, students, friends and family in the Honors Conference Room in Hammond Hall. This is a deeply personal project for Tonia, who filmed portions of the film here on the Fitchburg State University campus and utilized students in the Communications Media/Film/Video Concentration to work on the project. Locations included our Falcon Hub, our Quad, our Nursing Simulation Laboratory, and more.

Recently, President Hodge welcomed Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. recently to view a presentation by students in Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody's social media campaign class. The students spent the fall semester designing multimedia collateral for the Worcester County District Attorney’s public relations campaign to encourage safe driving for mobile phone users.
The experience was life-changing for the students and, according to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., will also make an impact on members of the public who view their work.

Theater Professor Kelly Morgan introduced Christian Dedier, Gabe Mangrum, and Lina Kherallah at today's Board of Trustees meeting in the Hammond Hall Main Lounge. All three students are involved in the Theater Program and each performed a scene during the Board of Trustees' social hour. After their performances, they were interviewed about their experiences here at Fitchburg State University by Matthew Bruun, Executive Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
