This morning, students enrolled in the Fitchburg High School Honors Academy  visited campus to learn about the Fitchburg State University Honors Program from Honors Coordinator Biology and Chemistry Professor Dr. Emma Downs, and students currently enrolled in the program. Director of Early College and Dual Enrollment Fernando Garcia-Rodriguez was on hand to answer general questions about the university. After the information and Q&A session, students took tours of the campus, learned about writing research papers, visited the Global Middle Ages Literature Fair, and enjoyed lunch in the dining commons.

The University recently hosted the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce'sCommunity Leadership Institute Class of 2025 in the Hammond Main Lounge. President Donna Hodge, along with Nicole Conroy of My Turn Inc., and Thomas Browne of Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School spoke to the class about challenges facing the region through the lens of education.

Yesterday afternoon our Veteran Center hosted a Veteran Student Meet and Greet event. This gave  our veteran students the opportunity  to gather for coffee, a snack & camaraderie. In addition, these students had the chance to discuss the unique concerns of veteran students with university staff.

Student teams in English Studies Professor Dr. Katharine Covino's First-Year Experience (FYE) course each created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) which were judged, with a PSA about bussing issues coming out on top. Fitchburg Mayor Samantha Squailia visited the class to sign and give certificates to the winning team. Their efforts paid off as Mayor Squailia has already made improvements, and promised a bus stop shelter is ready to be installed on campus.

Yesterday, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course spent the morning's class at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) recording their multi-camera project - their take on a political debate.

English Studies Professor Dr. Kisha Tracy's British Literature I class delivered their Medieval Zines to Dr. Heather Urbanski's Writing I class, and Dr. Collin Syfert's Current Events and Service Learning - who had guest speaker Communications Media Professor Kyle Moody presenting to the class. Each student created a zine - a small circulation publication of of minority interest, usually reproduced via photocopier, as part of the course. After distribution, Dr. Kisha Tracy made sure to invite everyone to next week's Global Middle Ages Literature Fair.

After a brief group meeting to assess what needs to be done as the end of the semester approaches, students in our game design program got back to work on their capstone projects in the IdeaLab which is located off-campus. The IdeaLab houses a state of the art studio space designed to promote applied work and create interaction between students, faculty and working professionals. Student groups are tasked with creating a game wherein students have the opportunity to work with developers from Rockstar New England as mentors, in addition to our faculty.
