Around Campus - Grid Drawing

Students in Humanities Professor Sarah Bromberg's Drawing class work on their grid drawing projects. The grid method is a drawing technique that involves overlaying a grid on a reference image and a blank surface, then drawing one section of the image at a time by copying the contents of each corresponding square. Monty Tech Students Tour Engineering Department

Yesterday, our Engineering Technology Department hosted a group of students and two teachers from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School's (Monty Tech) Engineering Program, who spent the day exploring opportunities in Engineering Technology at Fitchburg State University. After welcoming remarks from Department Chair Nirajan Mani, faculty and students, the high school students worked with current students on an eco-centric project in Professor Ana Mesquita-Emlinger's  Building Design I course. More presentation s and tours of our facilities were followed by lunch in our dining hall and campus tours by our Admissions Tour Guides.

Around Campus - Organic Chemistry Lab

Students in Biology and Chemistry Professor  Mathangi Krishnamurthy's Organic Chemistry Lab make nylon in the Antonucci Science Complex. This course covers topics such as structure, functional groups, stereochemistry, nomenclature and reactions of organic compounds. Reactions of carbonyl compounds and carboxylic acids and their derivatives are covered in detail including nucleophilic addition, condensation and nucleophilic substitution with special emphasis on reaction mechanisms and stereochemical outcomes.

Around Campus - Game Design Workshop

Students in Professor Jeff Warmouth's Game Design Workshop conduct the first trial of the games they are working on for the class. In this course, students learn to design and develop games using an industry-standard game engine. Students build foundational knowledge in the C# scripting language to implement mechanics with game objects & components, including input, movement, physics, collision, instantiation/destruction, and scoring. Learn more about our Game Design Major here.

Nursing Simulation Laboratory; Pediatric Patient Scenario

Our nursing students recently worked through a pediatric patient scenario in our Nursing Simulation Laboratory. The Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to real-life simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. All students and faculty debrief after the scenario.

Biology and Chemistry Professor Dr. Erin Rehrig reviewed stages of plant evolution with students in her Life Science for Educators class. They learn to identify each of the four major plant classifications; Nonvascular plants (mosses), Seedless vascular plants (ferns) Gymnosperms (pine), and Angiosperms (flowering plants).

Around Campus - Therapy Dogs Back in Hammond Main Lounge
