Posted by Andy Cunningham on September 26, 2023 at 9:13 AM

Yesterday afternoon, the always popular therapy dogs paid a visit to campus.  Students got a little break from classes, tests and projects by spending a little time with Zelda, Meme, Nellie, Moka, and Daisy in the Falcon Hub. These therapy dogs were a welcome respite from the stress that comes with the semester's workload. Keep your eyes on University Events for future visits.

Around Campus - Ceramics: Beginning of the Coil Method Vessel

Posted by Andy Cunningham on September 25, 2023 at 4:45 PM

Students in Andrea Olmstead's Ceramics began working on vessels  using the coil method of pottery - starting with measuring and cutting out the slab base. Coil pottery is a method of handbuilding pottery where a potter forms a base, walls, and style by combining clay coils (or cylinders). The potter rolls the clay into coils, stacks the coils together, and joins the coils through pressure creating a vessel. Learn more about our Fine Art Program here.

Posted by Andy Cunningham on September 25, 2023 at 12:35 PM

With the help of our good friends at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) including Executive Director Nathan Glenny, and Production Assistant Jarrod Roberts, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course got to see what it's like to set up a remote multi-camera production. This method of production involves switching between cameras, typically in live situations such as a newscast, talk show or sporting event. The course will cover control room operations including teleprompters, broadcast switchers, instant replay and slow motion capabilities, digital audio boards and lighting control panels. Additionally, studio functions such as floor direction, camera operation, studio lighting, studio sound techniques and studio staging and the basics of directing a multi-‐camera production are explored.

Nursing Simulation Laboratory; Home Healthcare Scenario

Posted by Andy Cunningham on September 23, 2023 at 10:15 AM

Two Nursing students were immersed in a home healthcare simulation as Visiting Nurses for patient Bob, his wife Claire (played by Nursing faculty member) and "dog" Chloe, all in Bob's "apartment." Our Nursing Simulation Laboratory assists nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for their healthcare careers. The “manikins” act as lifelike patient simulators, wherein instructors provide real-time feedback via a control center, giving students as close to real-life simulation as possible. Fellow students watch as their classmates work through the simulation. All students and faculty debrief after the scenario.
