Theater Professor Kelly Morgan teaches students how to utilize the sword as an extension of the character and a a vehicle by which the actor propels the story in his Stage Movement: Combat in Weston Auditorium. This workshop-oriented course utilizes the basic techniques of movement with emphasis on developing each student's potential for effective physicalization of a character on stage.

Communications Media / Film and Video major Seth Rigby interviews fellow student Adam Fournier about his experience as part of the crew on the student film production Dream Girl. The 25-30 minute short film follows a young man’s pursuit of an idealized fictional woman and tackles the question of what happens when a person’s standards alienate them from the world, leaving them in an echo chamber.

This afternoon, Photographer Atom Moore, a 2005 Fitchburg State alumnus, discussed the exhibition, “Second Nature,” during a gallery talk in the Fiorentino Foyer adjacent to the Sanders Administration Building gallery space. Students in Communications Media Professor Kevin McCarthy's Intermediate Documentary course headed out to the Highland Ave. Plaza recently to get some hands-on experience with cameras and microphones. This course covers professional production techniques used in modern non-narrative production environments. In addition to achieving competency in lighting, exposure, composition and framing with video cameras, students master the basics of audio production both on location and in studio environments and the editing of the Documentary topic. Documentary genres explored include Documentary, Electronic News Gathering, Human Interest and Public Service Announcement Production.

Students in Theater Professor Mary Vreeland's Acting 1 course got to try out their first attempt at improvisation. The scene involved a bus stop and a disputed seat. This course is an introduction to professional stage performance techniques. Students will learn how to build a character using techniques such as playing actions, status, physical transformation, improvisation, relaxation and script analysis.

Students in Communications Media's Assistant Professor, Film and Video, Rachelle A. Dermer's Pre-Production Planning for Film/Video class review projects. This course considers the intent and purpose of a message as a first step in media production. The social and cultural implications of media storytelling are examined. The course focuses on clearly defining message content, intent and audience as a precursor to an exploration of how particular film and video techniques communicate and are interpreted. Teams will subsequently develop the pre-production planning needed for a short film or video work, including idea development, script treatments, story development, script writing, rewriting, storyboarding, script breakdown, production scheduling and resource planning.

With the help of our good friends at Fitchburg Access Television (FATV) including Executive Director Nathan Glenny, and Operations Manager Travis Falk, students in Professor Kevin McCarthy's Multi-Camera Television Production course got to see what it's like to set up a remote multi-camera production at Elliot Field. From set-up to break-down, teams of students got to operate the cameras, act as subjects, and see how to put the final production together in real time in the FATV remote production truck.

Students in Dr. Robert Carr's Client Project Production course wasted no time and met with this semester's client, the Fitchburg Art Museum. After breaking into small groups and some initial strategizing, the class discussed their project, promotion of an upcoming exhibit, with Curator Emily Mazzola, and Assistant Curator Sarah Harper of the Fitchburg Art Museum.
