The campus welcomed more than 150 educators from across the state on Tuesday for the Reach Higher Massachusetts Summer Convening, including guidance counselors and other professionals whose work helps students navigate their paths to higher education.
President Lapidus welcomed the attendees with a brief introduction to Fitchburg State, its unique academic programs and its commitment to supporting student success. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Deputy Commissioner Regina Robinson saluted the attendees for their commitment to changing lives one student at a time, before inspiring keynote address by C.J. Powell, director of advocacy for the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
The Reach Higher program also featured breakout sessions on topics including supporting immigrant students, supporting students with disabilities, and advising low-income students into post-secondary programs that lead to well-paying careers. There was also a panel discussion on how educators can support students, parents and each other in a dramatically changing world.
