After a morning of training sessions, Chief of University Police Michael Cloutier invited our Residents Assistants, and Housing and Residential Services staff, to tour University Police facilities. Along with lunch and meeting the University Police staff, students and staff got to try out equipment, see what it's like to perform a sobriety test with "drunk" goggles, and so much more!

Sgt. Salis of the Natick Police Department brought our Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) recruits out to the McKay School parking lot for a hands-on lesson in the use of lidar speed tracking. Lidar, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges (variable distances) to the Earth.

Students in the he Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) learned Interviews and Interrogations techniques from Behavioral Sciences Assistant Professor Michael S. McCutcheon. Professor McCutcheon enlisted the aid of "police officer cum actors" to play the role of victim, while other officers observed and debriefed the students on their given scenario. Today, family members and other honored guests came to see the 6th Fitchburg State University Police Program's Recruit Officer Course (ROC) in action, and to learn more about the groundbreaking program that university and state leaders hope marks a new direction for the police profession. After initial remarks from Interim Academy Director Alexandra "Ola" Wysocki, Fitchburg State President Richard S. Lapidus welcomed the crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings and friends gathered for the family orientation program.
