Young Falcons Academy Week Kick Off

Today the university kicked off its Young Falcons Academy week, where students from Fitchburg and Leominster public middle schools partake in a week full of activities on campus. After a tour this morning, these students visited our Recreation Center, learned about clubs and organizations from current Fitchburg State students, social media, visual arts, and more. Here, Fine Arts Professors Petri Flint and Andrea Olmstead lead students in a color-centric project.

Exhibit Set Up in Hammond Hall Art Gallery

Artist Candice Ivy and Fine Arts Professor Andrea Olmstead set up Candace’s exhibit “A Wide Golden Blue” in Fitchburg State University’s Hammond Hall Art Gallery. “A Wide Golden Blue” will be on display in the Hammond Hall Art Gallery from Tuesday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, March 1, 2024. There will be a reception with the artist at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 3:30 p.m. at the gallery, located in Hammond Hall at 160 Pearl St. Admission is free and open to the public. Read more here.

Around Campus - The Art of Puppetry

Last week, students in Professor Sally Moore's The Art of Puppetry class put the finishing touches on their puppets, including attaching the "marionette controller".. The course explores shape, form and movement as it relates to character, mood and atmosphere. The history of the art of puppetry from around the world is discussed through images, videos and readings. Students learn how to construct masks, shadow puppets, hand and rod puppets, and marionettes, and will work in groups to put on performances of folk tales from various parts of the world. Around Campus - Intro to Music Technology

Music Professor Amy McGlothlin discusses and demonstrates how different types of microphones can be used in different ways to improve voice or instrument recording in her Intro to Music Technology course. Students recorded, then evaluated the microphones based on sound, soundwaves, and tonality. This course focuses on acoustics, hardware operation, music theory, notation, and composition skills through instructional software and on creating, recording, and editing sounds with digital audio applications.
